Perrin Paris "Riva" Ball Bag: You Spin Me Round

The Lady Gaga of bags: eye-catching and different, with the ability to be shocking and chic, elegant and modern, though not without reference to past game-changers! To be all this at once is unheard of, really.

And, like many of Gaga's fashion choices, Perrin's 3-D lattice-woven ball bag may not be the most functional you'll find, but it promises to turn heads. And for the double-take factor alone, it's worthy of owning. (Or at the very least, coveting.) This is not a bag you should attempt to overfill - the center zippers expose an interior pouch that folds over on itself, so it's a lot of work to access what amounts to a very small space. But when the construction is an engineering feat, some work on your side is justified. The quality is top-rate, leathers are divine and the supple crocodile is Australian, not Caiman, which is the more common and therefore, cheaper skin. For the snake, instead of the often seen python, they use anaconda, which has such beautiful scales. And, yay for me, allowed to be sold in California!!

While it's not perfectly round like an actual ball (I've never fantasized about carrying a beach ball around, anyway), it does balloon out with purpose and dramatic flair, so the effect is amazing. It makes for a total statement piece that will put you up there with the uniquely stylish likes of VB, J. Lo, and yes, Lady Gaga.

Choose among what feels like an endless selection: in three sizes and multiple shades (mostly neutral) and skins (python, crocodile, goatskin, lambskin, calfskin), you can really make it your own. Not that you're likely to see too many girls out there toting ball bags. Not yet, at least. The rest of Perrin's collection is pretty thrilling, so keep the Parisian house on your radar and expect more to come!

Dannijo Neha Messenger Bag: Feelin' Groovy

, some summer boots, beads and a fun crossbody and walk around without a care in the world. The Dannijo Neha Messenger Bag is the perfect choice when I'm feeling groovy. The handmade canvas messenger bag comes in three colors: purple, green or cream. The gold hardware is paired with textured brown leather trim and, of course, what would a hippie bag be without a little fringe? The shoulder strap is adjustable, which is always fabulous, and the closure at the front flap is button and an antique coin which gives it a vintage feel.

This bag is perfect for a laid back day with a laid back outfit that you can stuff receipts, travel documents or tootsie pops in and be on your way. This look isn't for everyone, but on a lazy summer Sunday, it's one of my favorites.

Bottega Veneta Woven Perforated Shoulder Hobo: The Object of My Affection

Who knew the hobo would be one of Bottega's most exciting styles to date? Not only is it inspiring a major shopping itch, I'd even go so far to say I'm in love. With ideal strap length and a dipped top, it's so much easier to get on the shoulder than the classic "Veneta." It won't slip yet it'll sling right over jackets, there's ample room below the underarms, and since it hangs lower, more of the bag is shown off.

Tory Burch and Michael Kors: Primary Election

Let's think back to elementary school art class and the very basics of the color wheel. Primary colors, by definition, are sets of colors that can be combined to create a range of shades. The same idea applies to bags! The bright bag is a brilliant way to set the tone for a simple look, and convert a crisp white dress or even dull neutrals into a perfectly appropriated palette.

Sometimes the enduring shades of classic Crayolas feel fresher than ever, and now is one of those moments. Tory Burch and Michael Kors, two definitive American designers (there is something so spiritedly American about bold reds and blues), have unleashed basic bags that are anything but boring.

L'Wren Scott Small Stamped Leather Pouchette: True Blood

Model-turned-stylist-turned-fashion designer (no one makes more slimming or wearable pencil skirt; her zipper detail allows you to adjust it so you can actually walk!) L'Wren Scott can now add handbag designer to her impressive resumé. Dedicated to elegant luxury, she's brought that along with some rock 'n' roll spirit (thanks, Mick!) to this deep red clutch. Sanguine leather looks extra intense when it's heavily embossed for a dark, shadowy effect, but the clean envelope shape mellows it out and keeps it classic. The result of this stamped floral pattern is a little vampiric, slightly Southwestern, and totally L'Wren Scott.

As she is just releasing her first full-size line, more on her bag collection to come! At Barneys New York for $1,730.

Pair with: A shoe that's sleek though a bit off-kilter, such as Fendi's mesh platform shoe bootie, pale gray suede, white leather, and flesh-toned mesh on a stacked heel.

The Row: The Golden Touch

It is no surprise the bags from The Row (named after Savile Row, a.k.a. "The Golden Mile") are as meticulously crafted and streamlined as the ready-to-wear line. If the clothes are any indication, the Olsens are dedicated to high quality and clean lines. But I am pleasantly surprised at how well the girls are able to translate their very unique personal style to bags that work for everyone.

Ashley and Mary-Kate each brought one out for a run at the CFDA - and I went from impressed to obsessed! The proportions of these bags are amazing on petite girls, like themselves, but the shapes will work on taller snobs, too. Especially Ashley's elongated classic lizard shoulder bag. The twins also exhibited how well these grown-up bags, designed with the eyes of wise fashion souls beyond their 24 years, can be appropriated to both sleek (as seen on Ashley in a blue dress by The Row) and opulent (Mary-Kate, wearing Chanel Pre-Fall) looks.

They have succeeded in offering us styles to fill a void in your bag wardrobe for a lifetime. I'm experiencing a mania of epic proportions over these bags! Except I'm not so crazy about the prices. Though, like The Row Ready-to-Wear, I am certain fat price tags won't stop this bag line from flying off the shelves. Classic Shoulder Bag in Lizard, $5,450.

Marni "Bondolier" Messenger: The Tourist

Playing tourist this summer? There's nothing better for modern explorers than a messenger bag that keeps the load light with quick access to your camera, while keeping your stash consistently close to the body for safeguarding. A " bondolier" is technically an ammunitions pouch, usually slung across the chest. When on an expedition of more pleasurable purposes, your stash will consist of your camera and phone, one in each of the easy-access outer patch pockets, and maybe some souvenirs on the inside.

Marni's modern multi-pocketed take is a slim crossbody with two zipped compartments for ultimate organization and a quick draw. A safari-inspired style perfect for your adventures. It's equally convenient for running errands, especially for carry-everything moms, when you're in your hometown. I know I'll be packing my ammo - everyday is an adventure for me!

L'Wren Scott "Lula" Launch: L'Wren's Bag of Tricks

At the Barneys New York breakfast on Wednesday morning, celebrating the launch of L'Wren Scott's new - and first full-sized - line of bags, interviewer Adam Glassman made it clear: "L'Wren would rather be behind the camera, instead to in front of it. She's not a woman who screams like other people we know!" Indeed, she has no need to.

Obsessed with the details behind what makes clothes fit, she became an image-maker. Working as a high-profile stylist, she found she could never find "perfect-fitting pieces" - she is passionate about celebrating the female form - and thus, her foray into fashion design. Now, bags!

L'Wren conceived the "Lula" bags in three sizes (small, medium, and a weekender) and named the line after her mother ("Her bag," she recalls, "always made a noise when she came home, put her keys in it, and closed her bag"). It was out of a yearning for a bag very structured and tailored yet useful. A bag in which to hide all your tricks.

By that token, "Lula" is a smash - and L'Wren was sure to include a few tricks of her own. This is a classic, ladylike bag that sits pertly and perkily (and the clutches are large and purposeful; the new envelope has a chain option). Hardware is sleek, modern, and minimal in gunmetal, so no messing with matching or clashing metals.

The palette lures you in, rich and neutral: an almost-black hybrid of ebony, blue, and gray in crocodile is a standout, as is the red-tinged mauve, while deep purple leather is meant to function like black "if you're a girl who only likes a black bag" (not L'Wren - she has only owned one black bag in her life!). But it's the thoughtful, practical details that make the "Lulas" keepers.

She believes bags should be comfortable, first and foremost. "Lula" expands to a size much larger than it looks and has contoured handles that will actually stay on your shoulder. The larger size is designed with an iPad pocket and loads of room to spare - and the best part? The exotic editions, along with the weekender, come with an evening clochette discreetly hidden inside. Even more discreet is the logo, obscurely placed on the inner lining.

Musing on her love of travel, L'Wren noted, "Wherever you are, there's going to be something exciting to see, but it's up to you to go and find it." The same applies to her bags. Look closely to discover the tricks. There's more than meets the eye.

Valentino Ponyskin Studded Cross-Body Shoulder Bag: Cross My Heart and Hope to Buy

Ooh, la la! I can't ever pass up leopard to begin with. Then tell me, if it's also impeccably studded and concocted by Valentino, master of the print-and-stud mix? We've now reached drool-worthy status. I came this-close to snapping up this ponyskin bag in NYC last month, and now I'm looking at it with lustful eyes on an iPad screen from halfway around the world with regret.

You might argue leopard-print and spike-adorned bags are a dime a dozen these days, but these studs, so subtle they're barely perceptible, along with that sharply-designed closure, are more like jewelry. Besides, most cross-body messenger bags are so casual you can hardly wear them with a pretty frock, let alone out at night. This is one of the few you can bring out after dark for more formal events, a la SJP. Hmm...I wonder if SJP would have encouraged me to buy it!

Derek Lam Resort 2012 Collection: Going Global, Going Lavish

The stylish city girl who just returned from say, exploring Thailand, then surfing on the Gold Coast and brought back influences from both expeditions. That's the woman of Derek Lam's Resort show, and this high-flying, deep sea-diving character is encompassed right in the bags. While the overall looks might be subtle, Derek was going for directness by titling the collection "From Bhutan to Phuket," which is where he picked up inspiration. He infused elaborate ikat and traditional Budhist prints to his otherwise minimalist clothes, as well as some light Australian surfer girl spirit.

His clutches and "Ume" bags also got the full treatment: chocolate and red calf leathers are paired with multicolor fabric stripes for a cool high-low feel and answering requests for exotic skins, we were treated to indigo python, brown crocodile, and wild-looking seasnake. Yum! Color is fresh and unexpected when it's paired with more color, and the delicate sizes of Lam's bag are suited to luscious skins. These are bags to take anywhere, whether it's around the world or just down the street!

Diane von Furstenberg "Addison" Ostrich Tote: Bird's Eye View

Sometimes it's all about the natural, high-quality, and rare exotic skin. Other times, it's the texture that the skin evokes, like in the case of this Diane von Furstenberg tote. It's the depth and intrigue of ostrich that appeals to me, so a stamped leather version is fine and dandy. Bumpy and agreeably irregular ostrich adds richness to a big bag, creating so much interest for the eye. Emboss it on saffron leather and there's even more eye candy going on, a color that's neutral and versatile but bright enough to excite the functional daily tote. With the convenience of a magnetic snap closure, you get the ease of fast access with some contained security. With a classic shape that will go a long way, the grain becomes the landscape on this essential tote.

Demi Moore Carries Roger Vivier "Prisme Chine" Clutch: More Color, Moore Luster

While the ever-sparkly Demi seems to age in reverse, her sense of style stays several steps ahead of the curve. By the looks of her beaming gaze and comfortable embrace with Ashton at the Urban Zen Awards in NYC on June 9th, I'm thinking love is the secret to her unyieldingly youthful appearance.

But the highlight of her simple-chic black-and-white ensemble is no enigma. Roger Vivier's polychromatic "Prisme Chine" ($925) clutch is an absolute piece of art. The painterly pattern is beautifully chaotic, one color being bolder than the last, and the asymmetrical golden buckle mimics the geometric shape of this prismatic bag. Leaving all else tintless (aside from her trademark Kabbalah string), her fringed white top, loose trousers, and peep-toe pumps let the shot of glorious color shine. At Roger Vivier stores.

Rochas Tab Clutch: A Tab You'll Actually Want to Pick Up!

Bags in the simplest designs are always the ones that strike me as the most astonishing. The elements of this Rochas clutch are as noncomplex as can be: a few seams there, an oversized tab, and that about rounds it out! Altogether, it is a dream. That's because the seams are conscientious and impeccable and the tab is constructed with the thoughtfulness of a work of graphic art. The top of the tab is actually a flap, designed for your fingers to pull on; at once, it also delivers an emphatic dose of unexpected dimension. But all of this would amount to nothing more than a moot point if the leather wasn't so smooth and high-quality. It always comes down to the skin, doesn't it? This svelte leather is key for such a minimalistic design, especially in a neutral tone that somehow couldn't be creamier if it tried. In essence, simply lush!

Givenchy "Nightingale" Messenger Hobo: None the Worse for Wear

So it looks nothing like the original "Nightingale" (unless I'm seriously missing something here), but who cares? I love it! And I suppose it does have similar logo tooling at the handles, though far more discreet than its showier sister. A big messenger will always have a place in my closet - even when it will be joining more than a few others! - because when you're going to carry a bunch of stuff, you need the support of cross-body straps.

Givenchy's done it right with this smooth leather hobo. Anyone who carries it more than a few times will appreciate the fact that the messenger straps are adjustable and removable, converting it to a shoulder bag with bohemian-chicness. Just be aware that the bag is super-long, so the straps are extra-short; hanging from your shoulder, the top of the bag hits mid-torso (of course, this depends on your height, but this applies to the "average" girl). Black, rather than softer brown, would have looked too severe and possibly a little menacing. Plus, silky leather like this is meant to slouch when weighted - a bag that's designed to get worn, and will only improve with wear and age. At Barneys New York for $1,240.

Pair with: Sometimes when you're out all day running errands you want some incognito coverage that will also shield you from the sun. Enter Eugenia Kim's floppy sunhat, which will play up the bag's romantically bohemian side.

Maddalena Marconi Hobo

I remember when tying a scarf onto your handbag was all the rage! The perfect accessory to accent your perfect bag! But it seems like this trend has faded a little bit. I don’t see people tying scarves onto their handbags nearly as often. Is it not cool anymore? Personally, I really like the look! So if it’s not considered cool anymore, then it certainly should be! Maybe the look just needs a little updating. I think it was this idea that attracted me to the Maddalena Marconi Suede Top Handle Bag!

Here we have a simple suede hobo, perfect for everyday use. It is accented with a scarf shoulder strap, complete with beads and other cute little doodads. But then the scarf extends beyond the strap, trailing down the side of the bag in the form of a removable charm. Cute! Plus I love the watercolor floral print on the scarf material. Not only does it add a feminine touch to this piece, it adds a nice little pop of color on an otherwise neutral bag. The slouchy hobo shape is definitely casual and would look great paired with jeans. It’s perfect for the spring and summer months, but I don’t think it would look totally out of place once the weather begins to turn cold!

Rebecca Minkoff Studded Fling

There has been so much talk here at Bag Bliss about Alexander McQueen Box Clutches. I get it, I really do. They are absolutely stunning! What’s not to like? Oh wait, there is something. That little (or should I say, not so little) thing we call a price tag. Not to worry though! If a box clutch is what you crave (and you can live without one of those awesome skull clasps), then there are many less expensive options out there! My pick being, of course, the Clutch!

When it comes to Rebecca Minkoff clutches, the Fling has always been at the top of my list. What I like about this particular version is the flat studs adorning it front and back. The original Studded Fling featured small, rounded studs. But I like this updated version much better! The studs are varied in size and they create an ornate diamond pattern, rather than the traditional grid pattern. They are gold tone too, which looks so exotic when paired with bright colored leather. Personally, I like the Teal! It is the perfect color for the upcoming summer months, so cheerful and energizing! Pair this piece with an equally bright outfit. Don’t be afraid to mix and match either! Colors that pop are the look for Summer 2011!

Valentino VaVaVoom

Valentino is a name synonymous with Italian high design. As of late, we’ve seen plenty of bags featuring a floral motiff. This is something different. It’s edgier. And I like it.

The VaVaVoom Small Flap Bag is a an attention grabber. Even if you aren’t into animal prints, this one is done so well and beautifully, it’s sure to get a look or many dozens! The spotted goat leather (similar to ponyskin) fetures a beautiful ocelot patter with more light than dark coloring. It is a beautiful neutral compliment for many outfit. Whether paired with denim or a chic little black dress, this bag is more useful than you might first imagine.

One of the beautiful details is the band of geometric studs that is on the front flap. This enables you to carry the bag securely when you remove the detachable chain strap. It is a feature we are seeing more and more in clutches a they become the preferred bag to the over-sized versions we have been carrying.

This bag features a snap flap closure, two internal compartments and an interior open pocket. It measures 9.5″ x 5.5″ x 2.5″ and has a convertible chain strap that can be adjusted 12″ to 20″. Great features and convertible options! $2195

Coach Madison Laser Cut Maggie Bag

Laser cut patterns seem to be really hot this season. The trend is gorgeous and it is popping up on handbags everywhere! Plus they are in every shape and size imaginable. So I suppose it was no surprise to see that Coach was no exception. Of course, the brand did need to put its own personal twist on the look. You’ll find several pieces with a laser cut rendition of the very popular Op Art pattern. My personal favorite, however, is the Coach Madison Laser Cut Op Art Maggie Bag!

Why do I love this bag? For starters, I love the Maggie! It is the perfect size to be worn over the shoulder and it features a roomy interior complete with three separate compartments. Talk about keeping all of your stuff organized! But then to offer this awesome style in laser cut Op Art… Wow! The look is just stunning! I especially love this bag in Parchment because the pattern looks very lace-like when done on an off-white background. It has a very light and airy feeling to it and it would look absolutely adorable paired with an equally light and airy sundress! I also like the look of whites with brights, so make sure that sundress is in a color that pops!

Reed Krakoff Cadet Bag

Whether or not you are a fan of Coach handbags, it’s undeniable that Reed Krakoff has not only launched a stellar collection of handbags, but a full collection including footwear and clothing that feature modern, clean styling blending masculinity with a touch of feminine chic.

Many styles feature neutral shades, but it’s the brilliant pop of color that really grabbed my attention. This is a season where color-blocking reign supreme and this bag is an ultimate accessory to do just that. Pair it with neutrals, denim and for the more adventurous, cobalt blue, vivid green, sunshine yellow…you get the picture.

The Grommet Cadet bag is a classic hobo shape with a short strap with 81/2 drop and a 19″ detachable long strap perfect for shoulder carrying. The short strap features a unique oval grommet detail and all hardware is gunmetal. Side seams are finished with tonal leather wide piping.

It’s a roomy bag measuring 15″ x 13″ x 2″. Roomy but not too bulky so it should fit the body well. Made of soft slouchy Nappa leather. This bag has a lot of great features and style for $890 from Saks.

Chloe Janet Bag

Structured bags are the rage. Even The Queen of England’s conservative lady bag is a sellout everywhere. Maybe you embrace this trend full on or maybe you kind of like it but just don’t want to completely commit. If so, take a look at the .

The Janet is softly structured with clean edges, geometric shape and luxe leather. Somewhat inspired by the duffel bag, it’s large, I mean extra-large. Measuring 14.5″ x 11.5″ x 11″ you could almost pack for a weekend with this big baby. It’s perfect for the girl in the city who needs to carry a her heels on a rainy day!

Rolled leather handles with a 5.5″ drop feature big knots finished with gold tone tips. Minimal hardware complements the bag perfectly. Hardware attaches the handles to the bag. A zippered opening reveals a completely open interior featuring one open slip pockets and a closed zipper pocket.

Whether you are a girl on the go or headed off for a weekend, check out the Janet to meet your needs. $1395 from Saks.

Kooba Kiley Bag

Ever since I got the chance to interview Kooba’s creative director, Abbe Held, I’ve been in love with the brand. It’s always a pleasure to talk to someone who has so much enthusiasm and love for their product. I’ve always believed in the saying, “If you believe in what you are trying to sell, the world will too.” I have to say in my 20 minute interview with Ms. Held, she made me a fan instantly and I can’t wait till I’m able to purchase my very own Kooba bag. I don’t have one in my collection and I think I found one I’m absolutely in love with!

I bring you the Kooba “Kiley” Leather Satchel and boy does it give me a cheek-to-cheek smile. Everything I have been searching for in a black handbag has been put on the “Kiley and I’m literally yearning for it! The zipper closure, belted handles, metal feet, envelope flap pocket, I’m in love with everything. It reminds me of a modern vintage bag and it’s no secret that I’m obsessed with anything vintage. This is definitely the type of bag I could envision Audrey Hepburn, who happens to be my idol, carrying on a daily basis.

This is definitely a classic and sophisticated bag that I would carry probably everyday out of the year. It’s beautiful a bag like this should never be put in a closet. I’m a huge fan and it’s already been listed on my wish list at the very top. I’m in love and it’s by far one of the most gorgeous bags I’ve seen in a while. Great job Kooba!

Tasha Heart Clutch

It’s no secret that I love evening clutches especially ones that are sparkly and shiny! As soon as I laid my eyes on the Tasha “Heart” Clutch, I screamed! I’ve always thought hearts were so beautiful and to see one as a clutch is adorable! I’ve seen a clutch just like this before in gold and I beat myself up all the time for not buying it. To see one again at a reasonable price makes me very happy.

I have quite a few evening bags and I always tell myself how many more do I need especially when I have a Swarovski one. The only thing better than a Swarovski evening clutch is a Judith Leiber one and as much as I love those I can’t see myself ever paying thousands for something I only use on occasions. However, I think the “Heart” clutch is a must!

I’m sure Judith Leiber has had a heart clutch too, but when you can find the same exact thing for far less deserves points in my book. What I love the most about it, is that being silver it can go with so many different dresses. You aren’t restricted to wearing just one color because silver can literally go with hundreds of colors! It’s so gorgeous and I’m sure I’ll snatch one up as soon as I see it in person!

You can purchase the Tasha “Heart” Clutch at Nordstrom for $198.

Marc by Marc Jacobs Ozzie Aiden Bag

Mr. Jacobs and his funky line, Marc by Marc Jacobs, never seems to let us fans down. There is always a perfect addition available for every handbag type of gal. Our recent find has us raving about how diverse Mr. Jacobs keeps his collection. This time around, there are no bizarre characters or giant logos to cause disruption; instead, we’re presented with a design that brings classiness and at a decent price tag too! The Ozzie Square Baby Aiden Bag is presented in a dome shaped design that resembles the cutest bowling bag possibly available. To the gal who dislikes the hand carried look, you have the ability to carry over the shoulder or cross body by means of a matching detachable body strap. The supple color of Faded Mauve allows this piece to be carried from the day to the night scene, and of course the finishing touch of gold toned hardware emphasizes the color, perfectly.

This is definitely something I would judge at first glance, as a four-digit priced handbag, thanks to the faux embossed-ostrich leather. The rich-looking texture kicks this piece up a notch to the sophistication level. This adorable piece will make the perfect bowler for the modest bagista who isn’t afraid to add some color to the wardrobe. If you prefer a funkier taste, you can find this style in Bright Plum as well.

Inside the Louis Vuitton Voyages exhibit at the National Museum of China

Tapping into a recent boom in tourism among affluent Chinese, Louis Vuitton has opened an epic new exhibit cataloging the art of travel at the National Museum of China in Beijing. The presentation, which opened this week, covers the brand’s iconic travel pieces and handbags as well as a historical view of travel from an artistic perspective.

Much has been made over the burgeoning luxury market in China, and this event, which runs through August 30th, is surely a bid to ingratiate Louis Vuitton to a country that has been driving a huge proportion of the industry’s growth. Say what you want about the tactic or its place in the art world, but one thing is for sure: LVMH knows how to create a spectacle. For those of us who won’t be making the trip to see the the display in person, we’ve got some great photos of the handbags and travel pieces featured as part of the exhibit, after the jump.

Save, Spend, Splurge: Flowered Clutches

For better or for worse, spring and summer mean that it’s time for outdoor events. I have weather-sensitive hair, so I’d generally rather be indoors, but a good garden party, picnic or scenic outdoor wedding can win over even this lover of airconditioning. And naturally, after my hair, my first concern is my handbag. For warm weather, what could be better than some soft, season-appropriate flowers?

We know that no everyone is on the same budget, so we’ve picked three options – the Expressions NYC Rose Frame Clutch, 3.1 Phillip Lim Cameron Flower Clutch and Valentino Floral Applique Satin Clutch – at three different price points, all of which would go over well at an outdoor evening event in the next couple months.

Want It Wednesday: Suno Spring 2011

Even though the fashion world has already set its collective sights on the clothes of Fall 2011, I just can’t get past spring. Suno Spring 2011, to be exact. Now that temperatures are cresting into the 80s, the brand’s collection of lightweight, boldly patterned dresses and separates seems more relevant and necessary than ever.

I’m a year-round fan of colorful prints, but spring and summer make me crave brights (and lots of them) even more. Suno is a relatively new brand, but the company has made such a big impression with its splashy prints and brilliant Loeffler Randall shoe collaborations that it’s only a matter of time before everyone’s sporting some Suno. That’s why it’s important to get in the game now and make all of your friends wonder who made that brilliant maxi dress or light-as-a-feather prairie skirt that you’re wearing. Or, better yet, don’t buy any of it. More for me.

Nancy Gonzalez Pocketed Tote: Divide and Conquer

Bags are best when function and form meet seamlessly. Nancy Gonzalez has the symbiosis down to a science. Focusing on practicality almost as much as beauty (fashion always wins this fight!), this tote has all the modern conveniences you would hope for smartly hidden in her usual minimal style. Other bag designers should take note of Nancy's enviable ability to restrain and organize. Matte brown crocodile is eternal - hardware would detract. Side pockets on a north-to-south tote are perfect for sliding in a cell phone, and that outer flap pocket is genius! You get easy access with the security of a flap; with a gusset (slip in your wallet, kindle, whatever) it's almost like having a whole separate bag on the outside. And it doesn't look awkward in the least. Man snob in your life? This dark color and masculine texture makes it great for men as well - don't forget, Father's Day is June 19!

Miu Miu Hobo with Ostrich Flap: Elements of Style

A bag with so many components at play is not usually my thing, but Miu Miu's hobo has congruent, not opposing, elements that make it work together. Yes, there's a lot going on: the woven handle plus a threaded handle, buckled strap, and an ostrich flap, to name a few. But instead of grating, the effect is harmonious and interesting. The contrasting neutral colors and varying textures give the bag a richness that saturates the eye in a good way.

The shoulder strap works in this case, since the curved top suggests a saddle bag. I don't even mind the second handle flopping over the front - it just adds casual charm. That buckle is actually just for looks, it doesn't fasten the flap to the bag but just dangles freely. The other end of the buckle snaps the front and back of the interior together - not sure for what purpose, maybe if you have a lot of stuff it prevents the front of the bag from sagging too far forward. The ostrich flap is apparently real ostrich, which is surprising considering the price. When I called to confirm the skin, their response was, "If it looks like ostrich, then it's ostrich."

Reece Hudson No. 9 Handle Bag: Birds of a Feather...

What could be better than a quilted white bag to welcome the lazy days of summer? That would be a quilted white OSTRICH bag! Add crocodile to the patchwork equation and you have the most dynamic summertime bag for miles. Reece Hudson's No. 9 Handle bag is deceptively simple in its design yet rich in details. From the decadent mishmash of ostrich quills to the ostrich leg skin to the fabulously seamed blend of crocodile, this bag has more than textural intrigue - white-hot (multiple) animal magnetism.

It is pieced together like a chevron puzzle - so much so that I stared at it a full five minutes and kept seeing something new every few seconds. The flap with silver bar is not only aesthetically pleasing but very functional (would love it if the bar clasp was a flashlight pen - wouldn't that be genius?!). Now this is a bag I wouldn't mind investing in! And don't be intimidated: white ostrich is no higher maintenance than white leather. Just send it to a leather specialist once a year, and you'll be fine - that is, after a long summer of enjoying every expertly-stitched inch of it.

Chanel "Boy" Bags: You Think You Know, But You Have No Idea

When you hear the two words, "Chanel bag" - which is likely more often than we even notice - the last thing that comes to mind is "androgyny." There is the "Mademoiselle," the flirtatious interlocked-Cs, the quilted leathers and tactile chains. But "Boy"? This ground-breaking new collection of bags will change everything you think you knew about Chanel bags, and perhaps even the design house as a whole. The diehard Chanel purists will resist, but let me tell you: this is major. As major as the day Coco Chanel herself whipped a belt around her beau's jacket, cinched it with conviction, and called it her own.

The deliciously sleek "Boy" Chanel bag has crisp industrial hardware in distressed silver or bronze, so jarringly unlike the feminine clasps we know and love. It is produced in four sizes, ranging from a slick slide-handle clutch to a long-strapped purse to a large and regal north-to-south tote. Its palette of colors is delicate yet powerful: flat red, deep black, intense grey, lead green and brilliant ivory. Much like an actual boy himself - masculine, yes, but lacking in any coarse testosterone so his fineness and tenderness is maintained. Is androgyny the new femininity?

Pauric Sweeney "Maddox" Leather Satchel: Looks Aren't Everything

We all make sacrifices for style, but a bag needs to be functional, first and foremost. I'll make exceptions for minor inconveniences, but it can't be purely decorative and must ultimately be usable. So is the case with Pauric Sweeney's beauty of a satchel. A classic case of a cool look and bad design.

The womanly, voluptuous shape is beyond desirable, but the cutout on the flap, which the handle feeds through, means you're just asking for trouble. What do you grasp onto when you need to open the bag? (And let's never forget the point of bags is to hold our stuff!) You're forced to put it down or cradle the bottom. You would have use always use the shoulder strap, so I'm guessing the top handle is just there for looks. Having said that, the unusual cutout with the handle rising out does look pretty nifty. And so is the palette: black hardware is amazing set against cement gray; I even love the contrasting burnt leather logo tag. Alas, this bag is tempting, but the true bag snob knows better.

Tressje "Renegade" Hobo: Unconventional Convenience

Every true renegade needs her chains, and she likes them even better when they are wrapped in leather. It's nearly impossible to get through any season (especially summer when you're spending more time outside and thus, carrying more of your life around with you) without a roomy, expandable hobo. Tressje's "Renegade" bag is a rare frugal find: gorgeous distressed lambskin leather, plus plentiful chain detailing. A bag like this proves slouchy doesn't necessarily mean messy, and the chain-link trim dresses it up without going anywhere near girlie. Set on a leather strap, shoulders are kept comfortable and mark-free and it's ensured that the hobo shape will hold for years. Convenient perks include two cell phone holders, a key hook, and an inside zip pocket. Choose among biker-babe perforated black, summer white, and crinkled, glossed gray or black - each equally versatile and heavy on urban cool. This is one of those bags that will spoil you with its convenience and you'll carry way more than you ever expected.

Lucy Liu Carries Roger Vivier: In Liu of the Boring Clutch...

Make no mistake, Lucy Liu is baaaaack! And looking better than ever! I love her sensibility: never fussy, always glamorous. She proves few can work the simple shades of black and white, a belted dress, and most importantly, a Roger Vivier clutch the way she does. Making the rounds to promote her new movie "Kung Fu Panda 2" she carried off a near-impossible feat: beguiling us from the likes of Angelina Jolie.

What could be more glam than Vivier clutches? Sure, her sleekly sophisticated yet coquettishly feminine dress and heel choices didn't hurt - Marchesa with Jimmy Choo in LA, Antonio Berardi with Casedei in NYC, and Givenchy with Jimmy Choo at MoMA. Though it was Vivier's clutches that finished her looks in style and really caught my eye.

The "Boite de Nuite" box clutch got double duty, showcased in two styles at the film's premiere in LA and a MoMA dinner. No surprise: the bag is a versatile, futuristic-chic mix of resin and crocodile, hard and soft, color-blocked in contrasting hues. In New York, her black and white dress was beautifully complimented with a strong kick of color via the "Night Tube Plume" in fuchsia with scattered beading and crystal buckle.

Rebecca Minkoff "Cherish" Tote: Cherish the Cheerfulness

I must have come down with yellow fever (does turning your half Colombian husband into an honorary Chinese count?) because I can't get enough of yellow bags. Maybe it's all the cheery, clear weather we're been getting inLA this weekend - everything's coming up sunny. Whatever it is, a big yellow tote is made to be enjoyed in a carefree way.

If you just want a spring fling with a bright bag, at under $300, Rebecca Minkoff's "Cherish" tote is perfectly priced for such an affair. Unlike Dsquared2's smooth"Quebec" bag that has the shade right-on but a distracting logo, this frugal variation has depth and texture for needed richness. Warm brights this bright are bit tricky and can look cheap without purposeful dimension.

An easy, functional tote for all your vacation or work needs: think laptop during the week and beach towel on weekends. And a soft floral print any day, a great pairing with bright yellow, for an unexpected burst of happiness sure to perk people up all day long.

Lanvin Metallised Python Mini "Pop" Bag: Pop it Like it's Hot

The Lanvin "Pop" has always been just fine. Passable and pleasant but not standout enough to make my shortlist. But now, a sudden change of heart! The mini, metallic "Pop" is totally different. Proportions change everything, but of course, python plays a major role in my new outlook (I'm a sucker for snake skin, what can I say?).

The cross-body evening bag is a cagey character - it's also an essential - and this one is simply fab. I can't peel my eyes away from the glittering python. In addition to ensuring you have the most glam bag in the room, this golden metallic gives it an organic, distressed feel that's only for the coolest of snobs. Add a textured, woven chain and a too-cool-to-care floppy bow, and it results in the best kind of relaxed chic, elusive unless you're the likes of SJP with her power team of stylists.

Gucci for UNICEF "Sukey" Tote: Sukey Saves the Day

Year after year, the House of Gucci has shown dedication in its support of UNICEF's Schools for Africa project. This initiative, whose mission is to give needy African children the opportunity for a quality education, has been of great importance to Gucci for the past seven years. Starting in 2005, Gucci's commitment to UNICEF has resulted in donations of over $9 million dollars, making it the largest corporate donor to the Schools for Africa project.

Each year, 25% of the retail sales of a specially chosen item are donated to this meaningful cause, and this year is no disappointment. Creative Director, Frida Giannini, has taken the bestselling "Sukey" bag and designed an updated version. It features the enduring 1935 Diamante motif embossed on dark chocolate brown calfskin. A hand waxing technique gives the bag a vintage look, and with delicate hardware (and the ever-beloved insignia) it is both classic and contemporary. This is a carryall that works for everyone - and knowing a portion of your dollars are going to such a worthy cause makes it a fulfilling purchase.

Miu Miu Intreccio Shoulder Bag: Woven Wonder

I totally dig this multi-colored treasure. The Miu Miu woven leather bag with a sweet jeweled strap is a sweet summer sack to throw over your shoulder for a night out or a day at your kid's friend's birthday party that you were suckered into helping out at last minute.

Bags like this are perfect for warm weather.

Henry Beguelin Ruched Top Handle Hobo: My Hobo and Me

You can't resist loving a good hobo bag. They are the easiest of all bag styles to tote around. They sit cozily at your side - there's something comforting about the company, isn't there? And it's the ultimate in function. For all that easy function, the form can lean towards the repetitive side. How often do you find one that is totally unique and stands out?

Thank you, Henry Beguelin! You have presented us with a super-exciting hobo (almost an oxy moron). I can't even remember the last time I thought that about one. The ruched suede, contrasting handle doesn't just jazz it up, it's genius: in suede, it has traction to ensure it never slips off your shoulder. But the handle has a meager 3.5" drop, which is disappointing to me because it doesn't fit under my arm. I'm willing to let it slide, since the bag is so cool. At least the slouch of the bag gives it extra room so it will work for most.

White's the way to go: set against the brown handle, it gives the bohemian tinge a shot of polish, just as Beguelin's bag will give your hobo options a shot of energy.

Janina "Tatjana" Clutches: Janina Debuts with Flying Colors

I have found my fun evening clutch! Designer Janina is a jewel designer who, lucky for us, decided to branch out to bags. Naturally, she started with the most jewelry-like of purses, the clutch. Her new line of color-blocked, stingray clutches called the "Tatjana," named after Janina's playful, young daughter. And playful they are!

A small clutch (8" x 5") just for the essentials, it packs a punch more powerful than bags five times its size. A total stunner in stingray and in Janina's rainbow-variety of candy color combos and shades of neutral, these bags are a good kind of distraction. The tab closure does take a couple of seconds to loop in but this is not a nonchalant casual clutch so high maintenance is to be expected.

I'm obsessed the color blocking (yellow flap with blue is my new love), but the moss green with brown is subdued and gorgeous for a more serious look. The pink and black is for a real life, grown up Barbie! So fab I can't stand it! All of her bags have a three-pointer brilliant-cut diamond placed somewhere on the bag - some are on the flap and some are on the inside (that is the ultimate snob detail!).

Have your own tonal vision in mind? Her bespoke service allows you to mix and match your choice of skins (stingray, alligator, python or water snake), colors, and diamond placement. It takes 3 months - well worth the wait for a one-of-kind clutch. Color yourself surprised. You will not believe the price: these clutches start at $650, depending on the skin; stingray goes for $788.

Elie Tahari 2012 Resort: Tahari Takes a Vacation - and Brings Back a Can't-Miss Tote

For their 2012 Resort collection, creative director Kobi Halperin was inspired the famous - and oft-referenced - Majorelle Gardens in Marrakesh, Morocco. The result: flowing silhouettes, splashes of embroidery, wearable turbans, and even more wearable totes. I must admit I didn't know Elie Tahari made bags, let alone cute ones at affordable prices.

These duffel-style tote bags are great for the world-traveler or more likely, the busy girl on the go. I love the Tahari "Talia" - the east-west tote is slightly structured with just enough slouch to look effortless. Wrapped handles give it some exotic allure; a simple bag like this needs an interesting detail. Between black leather on python-print canvas (a casual luxe skin-reference that works on this shape) or eye-popping marigold leather color-blocked with chestnut, this will easily be your daily go-to bag.

"Talia" Handbag in Python-Print Canvas for $398.

Tod's "Lucy" Calf Hair Clutch: Halle Takes a Walk Near the Wild Side

2011 FiFi Awards honoree Halle Berry showed off her wild side at the event in New York City last week, proving that her wild side can be rather sophisticated. While you can rely on Halle to consistently look stunning, she really nailed it - thanks in large part to her Tod's "Lucy" clutch.

The classic Tod's oversized buckle pochette is given a fierce makeover in slick, shiny calf hair - the heavy texture of the bag sets off her bold, cutout Halston dress. She wisely kept her makeup light and neutral, along with her single burst of oversized earrings, to avoid looking like Pebbles.

While I'm not crazy about the dress, she makes it work (few could successfully wear such a skin-skimming, ab-revealing choice), and I am in love with the clutch: soft and strong, intriguing and versatile, with skin that rings exotic for a hint of mystery.

Serapian Leather Single-Gusset Briefcase: Man's Best Friend

It's my hubby's birthday this week (it's so fun being married to a Gemini - I always say I have many husbands and never know which one is going to walk through the door!) and I've found the perfect gift for him. What does a bag snob want to give the special guy in her life? A man bag! And what man bag to give the man who doesn't want to carry a bag? An elegant briefcase, of course. No "murses" here!

Like most gentlemen with discerning taste, he'd rather have one great item to use for 30 years than a dozen different ones. He's also very picky and doesn't like anything over the top, so this briefcase by Serapian is a great find. The Italian leather is amazing - it's pressed and scratchproof (perfect for men). The interior is even leather lined with large zipper pockets. With meticulous stitching and seams, a zipper and single-gusset closure, and a key lock, it's a bag even a man snob like him will be hard pressed to find fault with. It's classy, elegant, and practical.
