Friday Funday: The Proenza Schouler Python Suede PS1 Bag

Proenza Schouler Python Suede PS1 Bag, $3645 via Barneys

As regular readers have probably noticed, Megs and I have different personal styles. I tend more toward black, she tends more toward brown. She usually chooses hippie-ish details, I prefer industrial finishes. Our tastes overlap more than you’d think, considering those big differences, and one place that we’re always able to meet in the middle is over our shared love for everything Proenza Schouler – especially the handbags.

That’s why it didn’t surprise me when yesterday, Megs turned her laptop around to show me a bag she was drooling over and it just so happened to be the same one that I had stared at for what seemed like hours a few days prior – the Proenza Schouler Python Suede PS1 Bag. Just…look at it.

I’m eying a PS1 (or maybe a PS11? I can’t decide.) as a Christmas present to myself, and although I know that this python version isn’t in the budget, I can’t help but sigh with desire every time I look at it. With all the python colors and finishes that we’ve seen pass through retail accessory departments over the last six months, I think this combination has to be my favorite. Sueded python is so incredibly modern and luxurious compared to its glossy alternative, and this grey shade variation brings the skin’s natural texture into stark relief. If I had to pick this week’s ultimate splurge, there’s no question – this bag would be it.

Bag Battles: Anya Hindmarch vs. Reed Krakoff

If I had a nickel for every post I’ve written about mixing colors and textures over the past year…well, I guess I actually do have a nickel, since I get paid for this. The point is, I’d have a lot of nickels. Not enough to retire, but enough to pay my rent, even though they give me a really hard time when I try to pay it in nickels. I’ll admit, it’s a heavy bag.

Anyway, the trends represented by the Anya Hindmarch Stripy Gracie Mini Shoulder Bag and the Reed Krakoff Kit Python and Leather Shoulder Bag are nothing new – exotics, brights, you guys are all old hat at this. But which do you like better, lots of natural snakeskin with a little bit of color, or lots of color with a little bit of texture? Check out the larger photos and vote in our poll, after the jump.

Man Bag Monday: Bill Amberg Full Grain Leather Messenger Bag

Bill Amberg Full Grain Leather Messenger Bag, $385 via Mr. Porter

Man bags are always one of the most controversial topics we tackle here. Some women don’t want their men wearing any kind of bag, and some men would never be caught dead carrying one either; usually, the arguments from both of those groups is that there’s something inherently feminine about having a bag with you. I don’t think that’s at all true, and one quick look around New York City (or any urban area where most people don’t have cars) will indicate that those hang-ups go away as soon as necessity dictates.

But what if your man is one of those dudes who’s always giving you stuff to put in your purse and you want him to carry a bag, or he wants to and doesn’t really know which way to go? Start him out with something like the Bill Amberg Full Grain Leather Messenger Bag. With a very reasonable price point (less than $400) and a masculine color and construction, there’s no way he’ll feel like he’s carrying a purse.

A friend of mine purchased this bag as a gift in the not-so-distant past, and although I’ve yet to see it in person, he’s of discerning taste and promised me that it’s a steal for the price. The leather is soft and thick, with a great whiskey-toned finish and slightly rough edges, and the bag is big enough to feel like an honest-to-goodness messenger bag instead of like a large women’s purse. If your husband, boyfriend or brother is in sore need of something to schlep his stuff, he could do a whole lot worse and spend a whole lot more money.

Oscar de la Renta Pre-Fall 2012 Coverage

This morning we attending the Oscar de la Renta Pre-Fall 2012 show and were able to take tons of amazing pictures backstage before and during the show. Oscar is King of fabulous details, and this collection did not disappoint.

We are sharing photos on Twitter, Instagram and Tumblr, so be sure you are following us to get a sneak peek at what Oscar has in store for next fall.

Rochas Miki Soft Shiny Top Handle: Ladies Don’t Slouch

Or do they? A prim, ladylike yet light, slouchy bag may sound like somewhat of an oxymoron, but Rochas proves that proper and casual can work in harmony. The house designed their Fall 2011 collection with one word in mind, a word that often comes out of bag snobs mouths: chic. It turns out Rochas’ sense of chic is feminine, low-key, and not too serious.

I love the smooth shape of the clean lines, via a hard frame-top and soft body; that slight slouch ensure it not so rigid and serious. Just driving the point home that this isn’t your average frame purse, this one opens all the way up into a roomy satchel (unlike most which have limited accessibility). In brown, it’s a fall classic; in camel, it’s got a refreshed allure to it. I’m not sure the original price had me sold, but now that it’s on sale? We have a keeper.

Valextra Alligator Isis Clutch: The Color of Love

Be still, my beating heart! Not to sound like a swooning lover out of the Romantic period, but that’s precisely how this bag is making me feel, all dizzy in the head and overflowing in the heart. An alligator bag, as you well know, is enough to get my blood rushing. The same goes for anything Valextra. Put the two together, and you’ve got a surefire way to get me to act irrationally.

As in, very irrationally, seeing that this clutch is over $11,000, and I’m genuinely coveting it. I imagine Victoria Beckham has one in every color. And wouldn’t you if you could.  The shape is sheer perfection: a slight trapezoid urges the eyes to rove around the piece, and thanks to the exquisite alligator skin, the stares are going to stick. Topped with a push-lock enamel closure for complete polish, this is the ultimate sophisticated treasure. A classic feel that verges on vintage, not out of reference but timelessness, it’s only fitting it’s in lush (muted) green, the color of envy.

Opal Stone: Romancing the Stone

I tend to agree, and I’m already excited about Opal’s lush collection.

With a penchant for architecture and all things organic, she took conceptual elements from pieces like her popular Zebra cuff (designed to bring to mind an African sunset) and melded them into the hardware of her exotic-skinned bags. Like the Se handbag, multiple layers of fine skin in pitch-perfect grey.

The handles and the feet? All 18- and 22-carat yellow gold. The skins? Only the best alligator, crocodile, and ostrich (she uses Grade One American alligator, which is only the belly). And the lining? The same decadent skin to match the outside! Opal also maintains that the interior of your bag is equally important, a second home to you, so to speak, as it contains important components of your life.

Fluid shapes, an elevated sense of whimsy, and materials to die for: Opal Stone is set to deliver only the best, with quality for women who know their worth it.

Fendi Snakeskin Chameleon Small Saddle Bag: Snake Charmer

There’s always a chance I’m speaking too soon, but I’m beginning to think Fendi has shed their logo-flaunting ways for good. From their sleek-ified Chamelon bag to the use of materials like canvas to their play on perforation for Spring 2012, the house has turned over a new leaf and I’m appreciating the makeover.

Could this cross-body saddle bag be anymore cheerful? Abstracted into a brightly colored pattern that almost resembles little budding flowers, I don’t think leopard print has ever looked so peppy!

Yves Saint Laurent Soft Ponyskin Top-Handle Cabas: What a Difference a Print Makes

Is it the cold weather that makes pony hair so comforting this time of year? Whatever it is, something is in the air because I can’t get enough of the softly lush stuff. Just when you thought the Cabas was inevitably inching its way towards ubiquity, Yves Saint Laurent whipped it up in a delicious skin with an irresistible print.

I still love the classic Cabas, but after seeing so many, both on the shelves of my favorite stores and the arms of knowledgeable celebrities, it was starting to feel bland. But now that the structured satchel is in a cheeky animal print?

Christian Louboutin Sweet Charity Paradis Shoulder Bag: Plumage or Perish

Just recently I was confounded by the logistics of Christian Louboutin’s Artemis shoulder bag, spiked so heavily on the strap you’d have to be a masochist to take pleasure in carrying it. I’ve got to hand it to the Paradis for originality (and softness, by comparison), but it’s still somewhat of an assault, just more of an attack on the eyes than the jugular.

I love a jolt of exoticism as much as the next person, but there is something almost violent about this calfskin-and-feather shoulder bag. As if a black-capped chickadee, Canadian goose, and a ferocious swan got in a scuffle and ripped each other to shreds. There are times when feral glamour can be successful (just look at Alexander McQueen) and times when you get the sense the designer is trying way too hard to shake a tail feather.

Top 5 AHAlife Bag Picks: For Every Walk of Life

With a plethora of super-cool options, it was fun to narrow it down to my top 5 AHAlife picks. From the bold, statement-making cage to the ultra-functional clutch-turned-iPad case, I’ve got all the gift-giving bases covered.

Whether you are buying for an ultra-femme fashionista (Khirma Eliazov Python Stingray Clutch ($925) bodacious design is perfect), a cool nerd (the luxury Capulet London Leather Netbook Case ($340) is just the thing she wouldn’t buy for herself), sexy librarian (Norisol Ferrari Harness Envelope Clutch ($650) evokes a rebellious, street-smart vibe), flashy social butterfly (the Anndra Neen Metal Cage Clutches ($675-$725) are edgy fun) or practical classicist (Cecelia Matte Python Convertible Clutch ($650) is a no-fail), these will have you channeling your inner Santa in no time.

Jessica Alba Carries Diane von Furstenberg: Golden Goddess

How to do gold metallics with daytime polish? Just ask mom of two Jessica Alba, who shows us how to glitter subtly and beautifully. Attending a luncheon for the March of Dimes in Beverly Hills on December 2nd, Jessica looked the part of the lady: fresh yet festive and shining brightly without revealing anything.

Pairing an intriguing Diane von Furstenberg Spring 2012 clutch with a Thakoon dress (gleaming at the trim, it’s a pared-down version of a wilder Spring runway look), along with Brian Atwood Pois pumps (I’ve been obsessed with these since I saw them on Zoe Saldana in July!) and a Giles & Brother necklace, she reminded me why DVF’s clutches are my go-to pieces, inexpensive and high on style.

If you’ve always felt one metallic piece per outfit is enough, keep in mind that gold-on-gold works amazingly well when mixed with contrasting textures, like the soft body of this dress. And when your clutch is petite, you can afford to invite more shine.

Don’t want to wait until the spring collection release? Get your 24-carat fix now with Diane’s Tonda clutch, in textural metallic leather, or her Lytton minaudiere, a darker take in hammered snake-effect cowhide.

Vivienne Westwood Heart Wristlet

As I get older my fashion tastes are changing. I’m now going from the edgy, rocker chick look to a more classy, sophisticated look. I’m now also loving designers who have a more classic look to their designs. One of those designers is, Vivienne Westwood. Westwood has always had impeccable taste when it comes to fashion and her designs are nothing but fabulous.

Ever since I was little I’ve always had an obsession with hearts. Even when Louis Vuitton introduced the multicolor heart change purse, I wanted it so bad but unfortunately I was not able to get my hands on one. Ever since then, designers have also been taking the heart change purse design, making it their own and selling it at a more reasonable price. Vivienne Westwood has designed the Metal III “Heart Bag” and I love it!

I think I love it mostly because it’s in a way better price range than the Louis Vuitton one was but it’s also more my style now! I’m not sure why Westwood decided to call it a bag because I’m not sure what you can actually fit in it other than money and maybe your cards. I would never carry this alone, since it doesn’t have a wrist strap, but it’s adorable to throw in my purse and carry all my unwanted change.

All in all, it’s a cute accessory to have and it’s on sale! Even better! Affordable and stylish, I’m a fan!

Alexander Mcqueen Bow Skull Clutch

I’ve always been a huge fan of Alexander McQueen’s Skull Clutches ever since I laid my eyes on one. Every season the brand has the same clutch come out in the new collection, it’s just styled differently. Now, I’m absolutely loving one of the newest versions the “Classic” Skull Clutch.

Let’s be honest, the only reason I love this clutch is because of the bow! Usually the skull clutches are edgy looking this time it has more of a classy and sophisticated feel to it. Obviously, the clutches are meant to be evening or special occasion pieces but this one is more elegant. As soon as I saw it, I envisioned someone carrying this to the Grammy’s or Oscar’s.

I’m usually not fond of red but boy does it look beautiful on this clutch. I think the Swarovski crystals featured on the skull compliment all of the red featured all throughout the clutch. Even the gold pops out of the red well.

A piece like this would look amazing with a red gown that matches the red on the clutch perfectly. I really couldn’t see carrying it with any other outfit. Even if you wore a black gown it would look too gaudy and stick out way too much. Wear a red gown, carry this baby around and you have one A-list celebrity style outfit!

Marc by Marc Jacobs Patent Rue Bag

Ever since I was little, I always heard my Mother say how much she hated Patent leather. She always complained that it gets easily scratched and that the shine goes away rather quick. I guess, because of her despise for patent leather I grew up loving it. I actually prefer patent leather over any other type of leather. To me, it’s flashy and fun! Patent leather is a blessing in disguise, because if your bag gets dirty you can easily clean it! Sounds pretty amazing to me.

I currently have a Michael Kors patent leather bag that I got in 2007 and ever since then I’ve been looking for another equally fashionable one at a reasonable price. The only other comparable one I found over the years was by Yves Saint Laurent and it was way over $1000. Finally thanks to Marc Jacobs I found one that is drop dead gorgeous. The Marc by Marc Jacobs Patent “Exploded” Dot Lock Petite Rue is not only stunning but it’s also stylish!

This bag screams fabulous and for the price, it’s pretty spacious! I love that you can carry it as a satchel or a shoulder bag and the huge turn-lock closure is amazing! This is definitely a bag I would of wanted when I was in college and I would love to have it now as it’s always raining in Florida. I can’t stand when my non-patent leather bags get water stains on them and with patent leather you never have that problem!

Grey Sunshine Yuma Clutch

I’m more of a structured handbag type of gal. I like a handbag to keep its shape on its own, as I dislike being additional support, hence the reason I sold my Louis Vuitton Speedy 30 to my little sis. But there is that party that prefers the smooshy, free-moving silhouette of an everyday accessory.

The Yuma Clutch by Grey Sunshine is an example of what might be a displeasing look to the majority of both groups. The effortless design of a single strip of disproportional leather makes up this day to evening clutch.

Diane von Furstenberg Harri Clutch

When I first glanced at the Diane von Furstenberg Harri Jewel-Embellished Box Clutch, I was a little confused as to what I was looking at. From a distance, the randomly placed embellishments almost make this piece look like a vintage suitcase covered in stickers from all over the world. But upon closer inspection, I realized that those “stickers” aren’t stickers at all. That isn’t to say they aren’t “vintage” though! Those colorful embellishments are actually pretty jewels in all shapes and sizes. When you look at them against the black suede background, it almost looks like you’re peering into your grandma’s jewelry box filled with brooches!

I must admit, I wasn’t completely hooked on this clutch in the beginning. The more I look at it though, the more I find myself liking it. The idea is fun and unique, in a very sophisticated sort of way. I also love the black suede body. It isn’t something you see on a box clutch very often. Plus the price isn’t too bad either! It sells for less than $400. This clutch would look lovely paired with your favorite little black dress. Carry it clutched in hand or over your shoulder with its optional chain strap.

Rebecca Minkoff Sweetie Bag

Gosh darn it! I am still dreaming of a 3.1 Phillip Lim Edie Bow Bag. They sure are impossible to find now, aren’t they? Oh well, I suppose this will cheer me up. I stumbled across a bag that sort of reminds me of my dream bag today. It’s the !

Obviously, it is not a mirror image (I’m not saying Rebecca Minkoff copied 3.1 Phillip Lim or anything like that). The two bags do, however, share some similar characteristics that I find particularly desirable. They both have a large bow on the front, flap closure, studs, and an extra-long strap. The may not be my dream bag, but it is very cute nonetheless! It is small and, well, sweet. The rounded black studs on the black leather background makes for a great tone-on-tone look. Plus the tiny grommet trim is just too cute! I love the new leopard print lining and convertible chain strap (something Ms. Minkoff has been utilizing a lot in her designs lately). More of a party bag, this piece would be perfect for when you don’t want to carry a lot. It would look great paired with a party dress or your favorite girls’ night out ensemble!

Marc by Marc Jacobs Party Rat Pouch

Straight from the Fall/Winter 2011 Runway is the Party Rat Pouch on behalf of the Marc by Marc Jacobs line. The Party Rat name sounds so unattractive, but what do you all think about its appearance? Everyone knows that the hottest trend for the colder climates is fur, but I feel it should strictly be left on outerwear or on the animal itself as fuzzy accessories are simply misguided. It could have been worst if this accessory was actually made out of a single strip of rat pelt (groans), but before any animal activist makes prompt judgment, this piece is indeed faux fur.

I’m no fur guru so I can’t tell you what type of fur it should characterize, what I do know is that this piece is perfect for the trend setter who has a soft spot for furry critters. One thing to rave about is that there is a visible silhouette on this piece. Most fur accessories are hard to distinguish what shape it’s meant to host; but the Party Rat Pouch has a visible snap flap closure. Dangle off a larger accessory such as the Marc by Marc Jacobs Party Rat Regine Bag, or carry at the palm of your hand as an additional attention-grabbing technique. Mirror with kiss graphic design is included!

DKNY Print Shopper

I may have been born in 1985, but I consider myself kind of old school. I miss the days when we wrote letters instead of writing quick emails, using house phones instead of having a cell phone on us at all times, and lastly reading the newspaper instead of having everything on the internet 24/7 now. Some people call me crazy but I really do miss the old times. Technology kind of took old school traditions away from us but I’ll admit it’s made a lot of things easier.

I went to school for Broadcast Journalism, so even though newspapers seem to be a dying breed I still love them. For some odd reason, whenever I see fashion pieces that celebrate newspapers I end up loving them! They may not be the most fashionable pieces in the world but if I can’t read a newspapers I might as well carry a bag that’s decorated as one!

The DKNY “Printed” Webbing Medium Shopper literally looks like a newspaper was folded together to form a bag! It also seems that the newspaper looking bag is full of written fashion pieces! How clever! It’s a great bag to carry around when you have lots of things you have to lug around or maybe even to the gym!

Vintage Chanel Lizard Bag

Even though I wear mostly black and white, pink is my favorite color in the world. It’s girly, it’s pretty and it just makes any fashion accessory more fun. My favorite shade of pink is light pink and anytime I see anything in the fashion world that is light pink I usually want it. i always love to go into the Juicy Couture store. I don’t like their clothes too much but I love looking at all of their pink accessories. If you ever go in their you will see the whole store is pretty much stocked in pink!

When I saw the WGACA on Shop Bop my mouth dropped. That is the exact shade of pink I love and this purse would look amazing with a pair of cream/ivory heels and denim jeans. This is one of those handbags where I would keep my outfit so simple so it can steal the show. Chanel handbags are always statement pieces because you can’t help and stare at them! They are beautiful!

The only feature that creeps me out is the lizard skin. If any bag is animal skin, I always get the creeps. I just don’t like the feel of it. Currently I do not own any animal skin purses but I would make an exception for this one! Who can pass up a gorgeous vintage Chanel bag in perfect condition? I’d buy it in a heart beat if it was a little more affordable!

Overall, this is a gorgeous bag that oozes beauty! Someone buy it, then send us pictures. Thanks!

Fashion Week Handbags: Fendi Spring 2012

Images via Vogue.com

Forgive me for a moment while I indulge in a bit of Internet vernacular: I am disappoint, PurseBloggers. For the past few seasons, I’ve thought that Fendi was on something of a roll when it came to runway bags; Spring 2011 was of particular note, and I had high hopes for what Fendi Spring 2012 handbags would look like. Well. Let’s just say that those hopes were summarily dashed by what happened at the actual show.

I’m not here to critique the ready-to-wear, but I think it’s relevant to say that the entire thing made me think that Fendi really, really wants to be Prada when it grows up. Karl Lagerfeld made a lot of overtures to the wearable, intellectual, modernist quirk that has become Miuccia’s signature, but the final products felt like the designs were reaching for something they didn’t quite accomplish. That’s doubly true for the multicolored studded bags and all the totes that look like they’re birthing suede hobos. Maybe these bags are just so different that I need to give them a chance to grow on me, but right now, I simply don’t get it, with the exception of the couple clutches with the extra-short fur trim. Those can stay. Cathy Horyn disagrees with me, though, so I’m probably wrong.

Reed Krakoff joins the $30,000 club

A $30,000 price tag always sticks out to me, probably because when I was growing up, that’s how much I thought a car cost. Naturally, I’ve since learned that sometimes cars cost less, and even more bizarrely, sometimes handbags cost more. The Reed Krakoff Alligator Hobo, however, comes in at 30 grand on the nose.

Black alligator seems to be the preferred method of delivery for that many thousands of dollars worth of handbag, if this design and The Row’s backpack (which has now been identified as alligator instead of our original guess of crocodile) is any indication. For my money, I’d want something a little more adventurous, but I suppose that versatility is of the essence when one is actually considering spending that much money on a single bag.

I was somewhat surprised to see such an expensive piece come from Reed Krakoff; one of my favorite things about the brand since its launch has been that Krakoff’s prices are much more in tune with the kinds of price points that consumers want than most other companies seem to be. On further reflection, though, launching this design at this time makes a certain kind of sense. Krakoff needs to make sure that it continues to distinguish itself from parent company Coach, both in design and in public image, and adding a few ultraluxury pieces to the mix is a smart way to do that while garnering some industry chatter in the process.

So while this bag might be a savvy move for the people who make it, I wouldn’t say the same for the people who buy it. Save your outrageous handbag budgets for something a little more special; at this rate, the next $30,000 bag should be just around the corner.

The Row Alligator Backpack is $34,000

The Row Alligator Backpack, $34,000 via Net-a-Porter

Two ridiculously expensive black alligator bags in one day, oh my! We previously reported that The Row would release and price their alligator backpack at $39,000. If you have 40 large to burn, then I have good news for you: the actual retail price is $34,000 and it is available now at Net-A-Porter.

The bad news for the majority of the world is that $34,000 buys a nice car, college tuition, mortgage payments, or a yearly salary. So hop on the “not-going-to-buy-this-bag-ever” train with me if you fall into that category.

But sticker shock aside, let’s talk about the design of The Row Alligator Backpack.

First off and most obviously, this is a backpack. Some fashion designers have embraced the backpack look over time but there has never been a huge push toward the trend. I prefer my backpack days to be left to highschool, but I don’t deny that a fashionable backpack can be created.

I do think The Row has created a very beautiful backpack, one that even I would wear. The black alligator skin stands out on the body of the bag and then there are adjustable canvas straps, an internal detachable handle, plenty of pockets, and leather lining. To give a bit of a casual touch, the backpack has a drawstring top. I can easily see both Olsen twins carrying this bag, slung over their shoulder or dangling from their hands, leaving every girl yearning to make this backpack style her own.

The more I look at this bag, the more it grows on me. It might even turn me into a backpack loving girl again. But the price is absurd for a brand that is new to the handbag world (granted, the price is absurd in general).

Fashion Week Handbags: Gucci Spring 2012

Images via Vogue.com

Will the hobo be making a comeback for spring? If Gucci has anything to say about it, the answer is “yes.” Ladylike satchels and small crossbody bags have been the currency of the accessories industry for the past several seasons, so much so that Gucci Spring 2012‘s stable of chain-strapped hobos was more than a little surprising to see.

In a move that was more in keeping with current trends, most of the hobos were done in an exotic of some sort, but they were all the same familiar, triangular shape that all of us probably have somewhere in our closets from a few years back. I would have liked to see a larger variety and more of the compact exotic clutches that graced a few model’s hands, but as it is, the collection makes me wonder if we’re going to see a shape-shift in the handbag market anytime soon.

Burberry Prorsum Spring 2012 Collection: Bailey is a Man of His Craft

Come Spring 2012, it is time for the once-preppy and recently toughened Burberry girl to put away her metal-armored and severely spiked bags and embrace a folkloric fairy tale. For his latest collection, Christopher Bailey has sent his Londoner on a worldly adventure into the exotic east, where she developed an appreciation for deep, vivid colors (ones unusual for spring) and artisans’ craftsmanship. From morphed tartan plaid to the hand-crafted weaves, I loved these clutches and totes for their sense of human touch. Heavy on quirky texture and offbeat colors, oversized beaded clutches pack a mean punch. Wild weaves have been partially dipped in panels of python. Organic raffia and teal python have been blended for city-meets-country edge and lightly printed plaid fabric fades beneath elaborately whipstiched and buckled leather.

It is all a much welcomed and creative change from the safety pins and heavy metal studs we had become accustomed to. It looks like becoming a well-traveled woman of the world suits the Burberry Brit quite nicely.

Christian Louboutin Sybil Reversible Tote Bag: No Personality Disorders Here

A bag with multiple personalities? Yes, please! I know Kelly already covered Christian Louboutin’s two-for-one special in crackly metallic silver, but I prefer the pony hair! Actually, I’d go so far to say there’s a high possibility this is the best bag I have ever seen from Monsieur des Chaussueres.

I played around with the belted tote at the Louboutin showroom, and it’s even better in person. Adjust the push-stud fastening on the belt to cinch the bag and give it more shape or let it stay stiff and structured. Not only is it so lightweight you’ll want to toss it around all day long, it is made of the most amazing pony-hair I have ever touched in my life.

Reed Krakoff Boxer Bag: So Glad I Gave It a Fighting Chance

When I initially saw photos of Reed Krakoff’s best-known bag style, I wasn’t inclined to jump on the Boxer bandwagon. Now that we’ve met, I have to tell you: the photos do not do it justice. The instant you pick up a Boxer, you’ll know what I mean.

All those opposing straps and panels make it look complicated, but that’s no accident: the genius of the design lies in the elaborate complexity! This tri-colored, multi-material tote is surprisingly lightweight with endless functionalities. You cannot tell from the photos that the entire front-flap lifts up to reveal a hidden pocket; then look inside this structured top-handle: multiple interior pockets to keep you organized. And did I mention how lightweight the leather is?!

With all the mixed-and-matched options, selecting a Boxer is a personal experience. Choose among cool white canvas and leather, neutral-toned leather, shearling and toasted brown leather, metallic anthracite, black calf hair,or suede and wool-felt.

Nina Ricci Vision Shoulder Bag: A Vision of Love

If you know me, you know I’m not a fan of fur bags. If you really know me, then you know I’m full of contradictions, too. Enter the Nina Ricci Vision shoulder bag: it is simple, gorgeous, and the ideal small scale for a completely fur carryall. Most importantly, it’s as sleek and flat as a fur bag can be, so it’s not ridiculously fluffy (which is why most furry satchels look so absurd). Nina Ricci has done mink right by designing it just like their lovely silk pouchette with irregular tiers for streamlined texture. A knotted leather strap, touch of grosgrain ribbon, and turn-lock closure keep it grounded. And I’m even willing to bet this fur is not wasteful; I’m sure it’s up-cycled (a euphemism for “made from scraps”) because the price is not outrageous for luxurious gray mink.

Mousse Printed Bags: I Smell a Lawsuit

On the heel of the Hermes vs Thursday-Friday bag lawsuit debacle comes the Mousse printed canvas bags (when will they ever learn?!)– apparently Thursday-Friday bags are no longer for sale and the lawsuit from Hermes was settled for an undisclosed amount.  I have a feeling these bags will be shut down before they even reach stateside.  This time they will have to deal with Celine, Hermes and other European power houses.  I have no idea how much these bags cost or where they are sold.  It was sent to me by a friend on Facebook.  Admittedly these are much more fancy than the Thursday-Friday bags, you can barely tell it’s printed canvas!  What do you guys think of this?

The Trendy on Bryan Boy

Super excited to see the Bag Snob x DKNY “Trendy” bag on my dear friend Bryan Boy!  Bryan and I had champagne at the Plaza before Thakoon show over NYFW and he loved it so much we sent him one immediately.  He’s been seen all over Milan Fashion Week with the Trendy in gray leopard ponyhair– including the Prada show where he was front and center!

I designed the Trendy bag with Jane Aldridge of Sea of Shoes in mind based on a conversation we had last year when she told me she could not find a bag that fit her lifestyle as a young girl on the go.  I’m so happy that Bryan loves it as well!  You know you have a hit on your hands when the two most fabulous Style Bloggers on the planet love your bag!  So touched at Bryan’s support of this collaboration.

Top 5 Black Lace Bags: Definitely Not the Black Sheep of the Family

Timelessly seductive and highly dramatic, black lace will always find a place on the feminine side of our wardrobes (even if for some of us, it’s confined to the lingerie drawer), but it takes a certain mood and attitude to rock it. You don’t just slip into a sheer lace blouse any old morning, an intricate gown on a regular day, or filmy black opera gloves for casual cocktails (unless you’re leading quite the glamorous life!). Enter the black lace bag. It’s a noncommittal way to infuse some theatrics into your wardrobe, whether you go the elegant route by pairing with diamonds and dark satin, set a contrast with shocking-bright nails or a neon dress, or spring ahead with a white pantsuit (loads of them were just seen on the London runways). However you carry it, a black lace bag will be a discreet wardrobe treasure for years to come.

1) Oscar de la Renta Lace Goa Clutch: With lovely lame mousseline serving as the base for artful lace, Oscar de la Renta has brought a whisper-light touch to the realm of black lace. Whether you shake it up with a loud print or let the bag shine against a muted palette, this is evening at its finest. At Oscar de la Renta for $950.

2) L’Wren Scott Lady Laque Lace Pouchette: Lace goes incognito in L’Wren’s restrained hands.

Pierre Hardy Suede Clutch with Chain: The Hardy Girl

I love, love, love Pierre Hardy. He has a way with texture, silhouette, and geometry that few do and you can recognize his work in an instant, without the glimmer of a logo. He also withstands the test of time: I still use my shoulder bag I bought in 2007. Now that I have come across this hyper-modern yet totally classic clutch, there’s my cue to update my Pierre Hardy collection.

The Row Doctor Bag: The Doctor Is In

I have to give it to those girls: the twins are truly taking full advantage of their lifetime (albeit two short ones so far) of sartorial obsession and doing what few young entrepreneurs can: turning it into a substantial collection the fashion world (and the fashion elite) are having to reckon with. They did well with worn-in tees, leather pants, and casual gowns, but who could have expected they would knock it out of the park with their bags?

The Olsens know when it comes to sophistication, simplicity is key. The few details carrying this framed doctor bag are precise and spot-on. A stark, flat panel of silky-smooth calfskin structured over a slouched suede pouch, with tabs that peek out ever-so-slightly and capped by the only hardware to be found: this is quiet luxury at its best. An elegantly noncomplex bag like this proves there is no need to be overtly conspicuous. Definitely not when you can exude style with such subtlety. Waiting for the catch? As with everything The Row offers us, price is an obstacle. Just remember: only the best in quality leather comes with a price tag nearing $5,000. At Barneys New York for $4,750.

Pair with: When you carry such a butter-soft bag, you deserve something equally fine around your throat. Artemis Wragge’s cashmere and silk-blend scarves take luxury to new levels of interest, with intriguing coral and skull prints.

Diane von Furstenberg Kaitlin

Do young women crochet anymore? We primarily associate it with doily making, scarves, mittens and the overly challenging idea of making a sweater. There is even the odd star-spangled handbag that appears on the arm of one’s grandmother. But, on a fashionable chic woman who emulates boho … perhaps. How about a urban professional or soccer mom with style? Absolutely! With the Diane Von Furstenberg Kaitlyn Woven Shoulder Bag, crochet is hip and fashion forward.

Beautifully crocheted leather provides a striking textural element accented with gold tone hardware. It’s all you need to make a fashion statement. Beautiful, soft supple leather, intricately woven will fit comfortably to the body.

Available in striking black, Desert Rust or Goldenrod, this bag comes in a color to fit your style. I’d go for black to spice up a professional wardrobe or complete a rocker chic look. choose one of the on trend colors to mix with boho, denim and even styles with a military edge. A top handle or detachable shoulder strap will even compliment your style. Go for the 11″ drop top handle if you’re in a more ladylike mode and a shoulder strap for total a more casual vibe.

This bag is quite roomy measuring 15″ x 1″ x 2″.

House of Harlow Tilly Clutch

I don’t own very many but I love clutches! Whether they’re for the daytime or evening I love carrying them around. Mostly because they keep me organized but they are quite stylish too! I especially love clutches that can be carried all day long. It’s lovely to have clutches that are for special occasions but if I can carry it all day long I feel like I’m getting my moneys worth.

I’m currently in love with the House of Harlow 1960 “Tilly” Clutch. It’s edgy and perfect to carry all day long. The black and gold studs make it stylish to be carried during the day, but the studs also make the clutch flashy enough for the evening.

Clutches, in my opinion, are best when they are carried in your hand but I also love when they feature a shoulder strap too! I’m definitely one of these people that gets sick of holding things after a while, so if a clutch or any purse for that matter has a shoulder strap it’s a winner in my book!

Rebecca Minkoff Apache

Rebecca Minkoff never ceases to amaze me. Everything she designs is flawless, amazing and oh-so-fashionable. She really is becoming one of the fastest iconic brands out there and there isn’t a true fashionista out there that doesn’t know what the “Morning After Bag” is. I currently own one “Morning After Bag” and I look forward to the day that I can add more to my collection. It’s definitely one of the best handbags a collector can ever add to their collection.

When I spotted the Rebecca Minkoff Woven “Apache” Slouch Bag on Shop Bop my mouth dropped! I thought it was beautiful and looked very different than anything Ms. Minkoff had ever designed before. The whole wrinkled effect on a bucket bag is brilliant! It makes the bag catch your eye and want it even more! Even the gold hardware compliments this bag well and gives it more of a classic look! I’m a fan!

The “Apache” also comes with a shoulder strap, but if I personally owned this bag I would probably never use it. This bag is too fabulous to be hanging off your shoulder and I think it looks better carried by the handles! It definitely would be a lovely bag to be carrying around for the upcoming Fall season!

Overall the Rebecca Minkoff Woven “Apache” Slouch Bag is a gorgeous bag and I wouldn’t mind owning one myself! Get yours before it’s too late!

Rachel Zoe: The Zoe Bag

Either I’m behind on fashion times but I never knew Rachel Zoe had her own handbag line. I can remember the very first time I heard about Ms. Zoe, was when she was Lindsay Lohan’s celebrity stylist. If I’m not mistaken, I think that’s how she grew into a super star stylist. Anyone can be a stylist, but very few get celebrity status that’s for sure! Then I remember hearing all about her reality show, now I’m hearing about her handbag line. As she keeps building her resume it seems as if Rachel Zoe isn’t about to go anywhere, anytime soon.

As I was browsing Shop Bop, I saw all these gorgeous new handbags and to my surprise they were by Rachel Zoe! I quickly fell in love with the “Zoe.” It’s a satchel, it’s beautiful and it’s definitely classic. I loved the black version of this bag but shockingly I liked the natural version more! The different shades of color really make this bag stand out.

Again, I don’t care for the shoulder strap. This bag is way too gorgeous to be hanging by a strap, I would personally carry it by the handles and use it as a satchel. The color isn’t the best for the upcoming Fall and Winter seasons, but who cares! Trends stink and this bag deserves to be used as soon as you purchase it. When Spring and Summer come again though, it would compliment so many dresses!

The Rachel Zoe “Zoe” Embossed Snake Satchel is a great bag to add to any collection and I can’t wait to see what Ms.

Pippa Style: Modalu Pippa Bag

I haven’t been paying much attention to Pippa Middleton, younger sister of the Duchess of Cambridge. But when I stumbled across this photo of her, I immediately stopped in my tracks. It wasn’t her outfit that caught my attention. Although I will admit she looks great dressed head-to-toe in light denim blue. Her top is adorable, I love the ruffled bib and satin covered buttons! No, it was the gorgeous handbag held firmly in her hand that drew me in. But who makes it? I had to do a little digging to find out. It’s from a London-based designer called Modalu.

I’ll tell you the truth, I have never heard of this designer before. But, I must say, I like what I see. Interestingly enough, Pippa’s handbag is her namesake design from this designer. Meet the Modalu Pippa Medium Grab Bag! She may not have married a prince, but she does have a handbag named after her! I think that is quite the honor. And with a style as gorgeous as this one, how could it not be? I love the structured, square-like shape. The perfect everyday style, this bag also features heavy rolled leather handles and a multi-compartment interior. This timeless piece is available in several colors, but I like Pippa’s tan one the best!

L.A.M.B. Love Sadler

L.A.M.B. is one of my all time favorite designer brands. I was very against it in the beginning because I didn’t feel Gwen Stefani should be charging such high prices. She was new to the fashion game and I didn’t think her credibility as a designer was worth the price. She proved me wrong though and then slapped me in the face with all her beautiful pieces she started coming out with throughout the years.

Now, I’m absolutely in love with L.A.M.B. shoes and handbags. The shoes are always beautifully made with gorgeous detail. The handbags can be funky sometimes but they always comes out stunning whether they lean towards edgy or classy.

The L.A.M.B. “Love Sadler” Small Crossbody Bag instantly caught my eye. Not only because it was on sale but it was such a sophisticated looking bag. I would of never have guessed that this bag was made by L.A.M.B. The bag screams classy, sophisticated and business woman and I love that about it! It’s nice to see L.A.M.B. can be an edgy rocker chick brand but also a clean classy business looking brand. Therefore, the brand applies to everyone and not just one specific market. Good job!

Such a gorgeous bag and you can’t beat the price! Buy yours before they are gone!

House of Harlow Rey Bag

I’ve always have had an obsession with anything from long ago. I think the fashion from past era’s is more inspiring and much more stylish that today’s. Today’s fashion is lovely but I feel fashion from the past had more of a theme and was more put together. I particularly love the 20’s, nothing beats the flapper girl look to me but other era’s also caught my eye.

When I saw the House of Harlow 1960 “Rey” Bag I was intrigued. It wasn’t really my style of bag but it had a gorgeous antique look to it. If I had saw this in the store I would of never of guessed that it was a new piece rather than a vintage piece. House of Harlow did a really good job by bringing an old look to the “Rey” bag but also by fooling us to thinking it’s an authentic vintage piece. Bravo!

The “Rey” Bag is definitely an evening bag. I would never carry it during the day but I think it would look lovely with a gorgeous black evening dress. I do wish the strap was detachable, as I think it would look better carried but overall it’s a striking evening bag that brings us back to early fashion times.

It’s an interesting bag to add to your collection and it would definitely catch wondering fashion eyes.

Jil Sander Pyramid Clutch

Jil Sander’s name is synonymous with pure, understated fashion. When it comes to her handbags, the German-born designer is known for pairing simple shapes with ultra bright colors. Perhaps her most well-recognized design is the Market Bag, which has been made available in just about every color of the rainbow. It’s simple styling and 2-in-1 design have made it a very popular (and versatile) item. Her talent, however, doesn’t end with just one style. Her collection contains a wide variety of styles in all shapes and sizes. Just check out the ! I wasn’t kidding when I said all shapes and sizes!

I love Jil Sander’s very colorful take on the traditional pyramid clutch! The unusual shape is simple, but still intriguing. It features a handy, wristlet-style strap for carefree wear and a bold zipper for a little added interest. And, of course, the super hot hue is very eye-catching. But I wouldn’t expect anything less from this designer! Showcase this piece by pairing it with a simple black blazer and slim-fitting pants. Feeling a little wild? Try pairing this beauty with some equally bright pieces. If you’re looking for some fun, you really can’t go wrong either way!

Find the at Net-A-Porter!

Mulberry opens its New York flagship with bags that are red, white and blue all over NYC

Photos via Stylelist

Although Mulberry already has a very nice boutiques in the West Village and on the cusp of the Upper East Side, it’s no surprise that the brand that named its most famous bag after Alexa Chung would want to have a serious downtown presence as well. This week, Mulberry will be opening its first stateside flagship in Soho, and to commemorate the occasion, the brand has released the Mulberry New York Clipper Satchel in the shared colors of America and Britain – red, white and blue.

To further prove Mulberry’s commitment to America, the company teamed up with StyleList to shoot some photos of the patriotic trio around town. You guys know that we love a good bags-as-art photo as much as anyone else, so we’ve got our favorites after the jump. You can see the rest of them at StyleList and buy the bag, which comes with a special “Peace, Love and New York” luggage tag, at the new Spring Street spot once it opens. I haven’t been able to find a price for the New York Clipper, but I’d bet it’s around a grand.

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week New York: Spring 2012 BCBG Max Azria

Because BCBB Max Azria is a brand that’s so widely carried an advertised, most of us probably have some preconceived notions about what the brand’s collections will look like: pretty, contemporary, wearable. While those adjectives translate into strong retail sales, they can sometimes make for a forgettable runway, which is a problem for a collection that’s shown so early in the show season. For Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week New York Spring 2012, though, Azria took a page from another New York designer, and I can’t help but feel a tad excited. These are not clothes I’ll forget by the end of the week.

Is it just me, or can you feel the specter of Proenza Schouler looming over this collection? And that’s meant in the best way possible; what we see here are edgy, modern clothes that don’t lose the wearability for which BCBG is known for even a second. The maxi dresses in particular, with their mix of patterns and solids, neutral and brights, will surely be a favorite by the time 2012′s warm season rolls around. A gallery of show highlights, after the jump.

Check out Judith Leiber at Gilt Groupe

Judith Leiber is one of those brands that you don’t often see at a big discount. Leiber’s tiny, sparkly evening bags are a favorite of collectors and hold a special place in the heart of so many bag owners that seasonal discounts are often unnecessary; one of her bags is like dessert after a steady diet of functional, durable leather bags.

That’s why the Judith Leiber sale at Gilt Groupe is all the more exciting – these are some seriously good prices on some incredibly special bags. My favorite is at top right, the one with the large, lovely, emerald-cut multichrome crystals. Check out the entire selection via Gilt Groupe, but don’t delay – the sale ends tomorrow.

Tory Burch Audra Hobo: Fall ahead to Red

Many colors come out when the seasons change. Leaves turn from green to yellow, orange and gold, makeup takes a turn for the deep and smoldering, and this sexy shade of red comes back into my life.

The Tory Burch Audra Hobo is a deep burnt shade that will be perfect for the new season. The soft wrinkled leather is in a laid-back slouchy style with a magnetic closure at the medallion in front. This bag is large enough to fit all your work essentials in and is thin enough to keep you from feeling like you’re lugging a suitcase around.

Tods Signature Collection: A New Era of Chic

The unmistakably TOD’S signature elements– sumptuous leather, hand stitching and pebbles (via the iconic Gommini driving shoes) have been incorporated into one fabulous new line called the SIGNATURE COLLECTION.  Anne Hathaway (looking gorgeous by the way, I find her prettier in print than film) is the face of this new collection shot by famed photographers Mert Alas& Marcus Piggott referencing Guy Bourdin’s world of luxury (TOD’S Creative Director Derek Lam once told me he is a big fan of Guy Bourdin) and art.  This candy colored collection is a vibrant tribute to the House of TOD’S.  I am itching to get my hands on the Signature fuchsia evening clutch bag above with removable chain ($1,095)– it reminds me of the iconic Chanel classic flap bag, injected with a modern youthful exuberance that Derek is known for.  I predict this will be the next big thing over at the venerable Italian brand known for its dedication to fine Italian craftsmanship.

iPhone Wallets: Everything You Need

I have an iPhone case that I think is pretty nifty (so much so I also got one for Tina), it has a card slot in the back so I can run around with just my basic needs – credit card and phone. But the trouble is, I forget to put my card back in my real wallet and you can imagine the inconvenience that ensues. Here are some better options and they all have their pros and cons depending on your lifestyle.

The Jimmy Choo is not only better because it’s glittery, but I like the fact that the phone goes on the outside for easy access and quick check of the frequent texts. It leaves the interior for more stuff, you can even get a lipgloss in there, making this the best disco bag ever, especially with the crossbody strap for dancing!!

Secret Preview of Louis Vuitton FNO

Exclusive sneak preview of the LV FNO window art installation tonight from 6-10pm! Inspired by the F/W 2011 Louis Vuitton runway show– these tiny barbie sized mannequins are made of plaster/resin and have customized bellboy hats made by an artist in Brooklyn! There are 350 miniature mannequins in all. I need one for my office! Image courtesy of Louis Vuitton.

It’s not everyday that a girl gets invited to meet the global visual team for Louis Vuitton, headed by Director of Visual Faye McCleod, and it certainly isn’t everyday that a girl gets to see their work a day BEFORE it is revealed to the rest of the world on fashion’s biggest night in New York City– Vogue’s Fashion’s Night Out. When I received my invitation, I thought it was a party with numerous of guests. When I arrived, it turned out I was only one of two guests (the other being Refinery 29′s Kristina Laliberte). I hate being late and was completely horrified to realize the other guest had left by the time I arrived but VERY excited to have Faye and her team to myself (I missed the “sharing is caring” class in kindergarten, obviously). Before we started our interview, I also got sidetracked by Faye’s sheepskin LV Bag, I mean– talk about blankie love, it is just about the softest and cuddliest thing, ever! And let’s not get into her sick alligator chain link double cuffs! But back to the business at hand, Louis Vuitton didn’t invite me to this super private shindig for my pretty face ya know. Read on below for my interview with the fabulous threesome (oh and super gorgeous team I should I say!) who not only assist Marc Jacobs conceive his fashion show ideas, but give birth to them (sometimes in 6 days– hello, I carried my baby for 9.5 months!), bring it to life on the runway and subsequently, into Louis Vuitton visual windows world wide.

Bag Snob: I am so excited to see the windows tomorrow night! Tell me about the process of coming up with ideas for the F/W 2011 runway show and bringing it to life from runway to windows.

Faye: For F/W 2011 runway, we came up with the idea of creating a hotel, like the Claridges, where models would walk up multiple stairs on to the stage, with very stern bellmen at the helm (they actually brought in a British bellman for the show!). We put together art renderings and we showed it to Marc. He loved the idea but then told us, “wait, the girls will be wearing really high 12 inch heels, so this isn’t going to work. How about putting elevators on stage instead?” So that’s how this came about. We brought the same ideas to the windows, but we are going back to the stairs– we can’t really put elevators in the windows, you know. We’re taking the same ideas from the runways and making them work in the windows. Everything will be scaled down to fit the windows.

BS: I read that this is the first time you’ve done a window specifically for New York city?

Faye: Yes, we really wanted to bring a new level of chic to our New York store windows, I mean, this is 5th Avenue! We are pushing the standards and pushing the game. To me, window displays really set the standards for a brand. It is the first interaction with the customer. The best compliment is to see hand prints on your window displays. We are having fun with this, with our creativity. We are not into trends, but into what we feel what Vuitton should be.

BS: Did Marc have any input in to the windows for FNO?

Faye: Oh yeah, for sure he did, I run downstairs all the time and shout: “Marc, I have this idea!” And he’s generally receptive to them. We had these mannequins custom made, to look just like the maids in the show, complete with the feather dusters.

BS: Wait so no real people in the windows like last year?

Faye: No, tomorrow is an art installation for the evening. You have to come to our Fashion’s Night out celebration to see it! It will be altered on Friday morning.

BS: Will the mannequins be smoking?

Faye: (Chuckles) You must be talking about Kate. We had no idea that would be so controversial! And certainly we didn’t know it was National “No Smoking” Day in London, we were exhausted and working day and night to finish the show!

BS: It’s incredible howyou start with these sketches, and end up with a show of Kate Moss in an elevator and months later, into window displays.

Faye; Well, ideas evolve very quickly here at Louis Vuitton, especially when you’re working with Marc! It’s really fun and it keeps us on our toes.

BS: So how long are you going to be up tonight working on the FNO windows?

Faye: Oh probably all night…

If you want to see the incredible window art installations at Louis Vuitton (one night only!), head over to Louis Vuitton tonight for a Fashion’s Night Out celebration from 6-9pm!!!!

Spotted in Lincoln Center: Limited Edition Mulberry

The other day I gave some of my Fashion Week predictions and now with the first couple of shows behind us I can add one to the list of notable styles spotted this season and it probably won’t come as much of a surprise that it’s from Mulberry. I have yet to spot anyone wearing the brand’s limited-edition buffalo leather New York Clipper bag ($950), which was released in celebration of the opening (on Sept. 7th), of their first ever New York City flagship. Sure it’s cute that it has NYC touches like an apple and it’s a relatively season-less design (unless you get it in white — it also comes in blue and red), given that it’s basically just a classic Mulberry style with a little bit of extra detail, but come on, can’t we be a litttttle more original, it’s a celebration after-all! Luckily Mulberry also came-out with a second limited edition bag to celebrate their NYC opening and I spotted one lucky woman already sporting it (only 10 of them were made!).

Diane von Furstenberg Elaine

One of my favorite designers at the moment is Diane von Furstenberg. Anything she designs exudes luxury, fashion and sophistication. Some designers are trendy, some are edgy, some are iconic but I would classify DVF as classy. If I dress up or am attending a special occasion I want to carry a DVF bag. No matter if it’s day or night her bags, clothes and accessories are synonymous with classy, high fashion style.

I’m currently in love with the Diane von Furstenberg “Elaine” Photographer Bag. It’s gorgeous, spacious and would be a perfect addition to the upcoming Fall season. Of course, I’m a huge fan of any bag that is black leather with gold hardware but this one is on the top of my list. I’m loving all the pockets and different compartments, because it would be kind of impossible to keep it so messy when the bag is pretty much made to keep you organized.

As usual, I don’t like the shoulder strap on this bag. I think it would look much better carried by the handles. I suppose if you put too much in the bag the shoulder strap would come in handy though. Overall, it’s a gorgeous bag and would look amazing with your Fall wardrobe.

Felix Rey Golden Child Diaper Bag

I do not have a baby but if I did you better believe that everything I owned associated to the baby would be in high fashion especially the diaper bag! Some diaper bags are cute, some look horrid after a while but I love the ones that could pass as a regular purse. I mean face it, Mother’s have a lot to carry and the last thing they need to do is to have a diaper bag and a purse! So why not, have a diaper bag that looks just like a handbag and carry all your essentials in it.

At first glimpse, I had no idea the Felix Rey “Golden Child” Diaper Bag was in fact a diaper bag! I thought it was a handbag until I read the description. Besides the side pockets and the pacifier charm, nothing screams diaper bag or baby supplies on board with this bag and I love that! No one would ever think that you have diapers, bottles, or even a changing pad inside this bag (which actually comes with it).

Sometimes people think that when you have a child you have to let go of the things you love, especially fashion. I understand that the baby always has to come first, but there’s no rule that says you can have fashionable baby accessories! If I was having a baby, I would purchase this diaper bag in a heart beat! Gorgeous, stylish and baby proof what more could you want in a diaper bag?

Crossbody Bag Trend

Summer is just about to come to an end and a quick getaway was just what my household took, to celebrate its farewell. We ended our hot summer venture at one of the largest thrill and water parks in the nation. The sense of going highly fashioned to such a place is quickly disregarded, and instead all is focused on what handbag to wear. Hands down, you must take a hands-free bag!

I packed my Carlos Falchi snake-embossed cross body bag and the only annoyance I experienced was the fact that I had to carry multiple family members’ cell phones around. Cross body bags come with such diversity and in different price ranges, it only takes time to discover which suits your personality the best.

3.1 Phillip Lim Pashli

Hey Phillip Lim purse fans, have you discovered the new Pashli Satchel yet? This hot new addition just hit stores and we are obsessed! The satchel retails for $895 is available in variety of perfect autumn accessory shades like Taupe, Ink, Black, and my favorite Jade. There’s also a messenger that retails for $750.

Alexander Wang Morgan

Move over Coco and Rocco, you’re not the only styles sporting those mind-boggling studs underneath anymore. We’re glad to see that Alexander Wang has presented yet another fabulous design with those infamous oversized metal studs, the Morgan Hobo. They’re attractive, protective and give off such a chic vibe.

I’ve always been a fan of the handy satchel style, but it’s the hobo look that truly wins me over. So with that said, the Morgan Hobo by Alexander Wang screams perfection to me. I keep admiring the fantastic design of rich, pebbled calfskin in an oversized crescent-like shape. It’s roomy, easily accessible and for those who like slouchy accessories, you’ll be easily pleased with this one.

Fashion Night Out Tote

Fashion’s Night Out is hosting its third-year event this September and if you’re in the New York City area on the 8th of next month, downtown NYC is where you want to be. Fashion Night Out consists of a grand party throughout Fashion Capital, U.S.A (it’s even carried across the country and abroad via the world wide web). The joy of designers, celebrities, music, events and of course, massive amount of shopping, is shared throughout a large sum of fashionista’s alike; hence, Fashion’s Night Out is one of the largest fashion party’s of the year.

Among all the events going on, the most exceeded mission on everyone’s mind is definitely the shopping. With many brands, designers and specialty shops participating, there are no limits to the styles and goods available to the fashion consumer. The best part is that you don’t have to wait for Fashion’s Night Out to get your hands on their Official Merchandise. Funky cool Fashion’s Night Out Totes feature a full canvas body, FNO’s catchy logo, and neon-bright double flat shoulder straps. The $50 price tag is absolutely amazing, but not as generous as the 40% donation that will be made to the New York City AIDS funds with the sale of each tote.

Kate Spade Westward Wanderlust Satchel

It seems to be a trend at the moment for handbags to look like brief cases. A lot of designers are getting in on the trend and I’m liking it. I’ve never been one for trends but this trend is a bit of a mystery to me. I love the whole idea of a bag looking like a hidden purse. Kind of make people think you are on your way to work only to find out that it’s your bag.

The Westward Collection from Kate Spade New York “Wanderlust” Satchel is a gorgeous example of a briefcase turned purse. It doesn’t look like it would be a handbag and I loved it. If I saw someone down the street carrying this bag I would instantly think books or a lap top was it not a wallet, makeup and other goodies.

The best part about the “Wanderlust” is that it’s so classy looking. I could see a lot of business women in NYC purchasing this bag. It’s sophisticated looking enough to be paired up with a suit or even dress it down with a pair of skinny jeans and a blazer.

It’s definitely a beautiful bag to sport around during the upcoming Fall months! It would look amazing with a gorgeous pair of boots! Snatch it up before it’s gone!

Bottega Veneta Frayed Intrecciato

Well-worn denim, the perfect vintage Chanel jacket and an amazing Bottega Veneta handbag. What do they have in common? Sometimes being a little frayed around the edges is a good thing.

Bottega Veneta has some of the most incredibly sumptuous leathers on the planet. Supple and luxurious as well as easy to wear. While many premium designer handbags are structured (think Hermes Birkin/Kelly and Chanel 2.55), Bottega Veneta is the ultimate in squishy. Their hobos are iconic and highly coveted by the fashion elite and aspirational shoppers like me!

Instead of the handle being a continuation of the body of the bag, this hobo has a handle connected by brass rings. The rings go through the side of the bag so that the sides fold inward. A patchwork of intreccatio (woven) leather is connected with angular seaming highlighted by the fringed ends of the leather. The handle is completely covered with fringed leather as well. It’s a soft effect and provides even more tactile elements for you to enjoy.

Each bag is lined in suede and features an interior zippered side and open pocket. This bag will hold it all too. A very roomy 21″ x 12.5″ x 9.5″ with a 6″ handle drop. It will fit comfortable on your shoulder. Enjoy the jealous looks you get when you carry it. A dream bag for $3,250 at Saks Fifth Avenue. It’s available in black and a beautiful rust.

Kate Spade Westward Ingenue Clutch

The Westward Collection by Kate Spade is bringing out some very attractive pieces at the moment. In case you aren’t familiar with the Collection, Westward is a collaboration between Kate Spade and designers Meritt Elliott and Emily Current. So far, they’re specializing in some of the most chic travel accessories you can add to your collection. The smallest piece of the assortment is the fun and dazzling clutch of The Ingenue Clutch. What’s not to love about this sequined beauty?

Lanvin proves that beautiful things can come in small packages

Lanvin Lizard Box Clutch, $2127 via Matches

Yesterday, I got to talking about my love for Lanvin in general and Alber Elbaz in particular over at TalkShoes, and now I’m prepared to do to do the same here. Bags like the Lanvin Lizard Box Clutch just inspire that in me. I could look at this little bag all day, mostly because it shirks the traditional conventions of evening bags in order to pursue a look that’s a bit more unexpected; you won’t find any gleaming hardware or intricate beading here.

If I saw this clutch in someone’s hands and didn’t know any better, I’d assume it was the vintage find of a lifetime. The dusty teal lizard accented with tortoise shell gussets and weathered brass hardware looks like nothing else on the market right now, and the combination is beautiful in a subtle, restrained, well-edited way that’s genuinely hard to come by.

Naturally, the color palette gives this piece a retro feel, but that’s part of its success. Almost all clutches go for shine, whether it be through polished hardware, beading and rhinestones or fabric that has an inherent sheen to it. This clutch goes in the exact opposite direction and feels completely fresh as a result.

The Outstanding Pieces of Chanel Pre-Fall 2011

Photos via Chanel

I’m taking the day off tomorrow. Yep. Mental health day! Don’t worry, though, Megs will be here to hold down the fort and update the blog, but I’m going to have a three-day weekend. I don’t take many days off, and I intend to frolic.

It would be awful of me to leave you without something memorable, though, which is why I present you with the Chanel Pre-Fall 2011 Outstanding Pieces. We already saw the exotics from Chanel Paris-Byzance, and now we have a proper Pre-Fall collection full of aubergine alligator and gold python, in addition to the usual suspects. As always, all the pictures can be found after the jump.

Oscar de la Renta is the most expensive store in America

Image via Bundle

Denying it is impossible: Even with most of the economy at a standstill, luxury goods continue to boom and the products that make up the marketplace continue to reach higher and higher price points. All of the husbands and boyfriends (not to mention jealous officemates and frienemies) out there who nearly keel over at the price tags on handbags should take a look through the back pages of any major US fashion magazine – accessories are expensive, but clothes are out of this world.

Considering that, it’s no surprise that a recent survey by Bundle and Citi found that Oscar de la Renta’s Madison Avenue flagship is the most expensive store in the country. When cocktail dresses start at more than a thousand dollars and sometimes stretch up into the five figures, it’s not hard to see where the boutique’s $3217 average ticket comes from. Naturally, I have a few theories about these results.

When a survey like this comes out, it can almost always tell you more about the luxury business than meets the eyes, as long as you’re willing to dig a little bit. In this case, the second store on the list, Giorgio Armani’s Madison Avenue flagship, is just as important to my conclusions. What do they have in common? Ready-to-wear business that far outpace their accessories sales.

Think about it: When someone says “Chanel” to me, I think of a bag. The same thing happens with almost any major brand; the bags (and sometimes shoes) are the most recognizable pieces of the brand’s public image to consumers because they have a much wider potential customer base than a $5,000 cocktail dress.

Except when it comes to de la Renta and Armani, that’s not true. Most brands need the revenue from accessories (and cosmetics) to balance out the slim profits that are earned from selling nose-bleedingly expensive clothes to a small stable of customers, but some companies have such a strong name in ready-to-wear (for Armani, I would imagine that menswear – suits in particular – makes a big contribution as a well) that the comparatively modest accessories sales probably push their average sales prices upwards.

Marie Turnor bases a bag on brown paper lunch bags

Growing up, I had my lunch made for me every morning by my mom. In a brown paper bag, she meticulously packed healthy foods that no one wanted to trade for at lunch (thanks mom, you were ahead of the curve!). My childhood was filled with brown paper bags, and for this reason the Marie Turnor Picnic Bag called out to me from the first time I stumbled upon it.

You can’t tell me there is not a tinge of nostalgia you feel when you see this bag. Whether you had an awesome hard case lunchbox or bought lunch everyday, the brown paper bag was part of all of our lives in someway or another. Marie Turnor uses this design to give us a pouch-like bag that can easily work as a clutch or be placed inside of a larger bag to hold some essentials.

The best part after the design is the price. For only $175, the Picnic Bag holds plenty of items at 8″ x 8″ x 2″. The Italian calf leather looks luscious and soft in the photos, so I hope it will not disappoint in the flesh.

If I bought this bag, it would end up getting most use as an organizational pouch thrown in a larger bag. The design rolls at the top and closes with a magnet, though I do not believe there are any organizational pockets on the interior. This bag could offer an easy accessory to the inside of your bag. There are many colors, but my vote hands down goes to the tan version.

Bottega Veneta gets pretty tough with metal lace

Bottega Veneta Metal Lace Karung Knot Clutch, $3980 via Bottega Veneta

One of my favorite parts of fashion is the gift of imitation. I remember being blown away by the pleats printed on the flat skirt of a Prada dress when I was younger, and the ability to trick the eye and make something expected out of something totally unexpected is one of the best visual treats you’ll find. It’s the kind of creativity that reminds us all why we pay these prices.

That’s exactly the kind of reaction that I had to the Bottega Veneta Metal Lace Karung Knot Clutch when I first saw it. On initial visual inspection, it just looks like regular black lace overlaid on a cream-colored fabric; a nice clutch, but not a particularly fascinating one. The reality, though, is much more interesting.

You’ve probably already caught on that the “lace” is actually finely honed metal, shaped in a way that’s just as intricate and detailed as anything I have hanging in my closet. The underlying material is cream satin, and the combination of metal over satin with karung lizard trim is making me absolutely salivate. It would have been easy for Bottega to cut a corner here and there – use a throwaway trim for the metal lace, or use regular lace and market this bag as a very straightforward evening option. Instead, Bottega gives you double-barreled luxury. (Not to mention, the most interesting clutch at the party.)

Yves Saint Laurent Large Leather Tote Bag: All About Yves

Oooh! Yves Saint Laurent, you’re putting me in a Bag Snob quandary. Now I can’t decide between this and the Muse Two Cabas. Decisions, decisions. This large north-to-south south tote is much easier and offers more longevity. But with this functionality means you lose out on the nice details (tab and zipper closure, yummy hardware, intriguing, though more restrictive, colorblocking) of the Muse Two Cabas.

Felix Rey New Golden Child Diaper Bag Guest Blog by Joanne Tsai

Guest post by Joanne Tsai

All my dear girl friends are having babies these years in a row, like a relay race. No more single nights out, but high tea with dress-up moms and babies is still fabulous. As the only single (left-out) noble, I admit that the privilege of owning branded diaper bag is the only and urgent desire for me.

designer Daniel Sisso met Pierre Hardy shortly after deciding he wanted to change the way women carry bags. It looks like it was meant to be!

Bag Snob x DKNY The Trendy bag on Tulisa Contostavlos

Elliot Mann Indie Bag

I adore the rich ethnicity vibe you get from these hippie inspired/bohemian pieces. If you don’t know much about Elliot Mann, he is the brain behind bringing together global fabrics and patterns that are highly accessible in New York City, hence the headquarters of his one-of-a-kind accessories. So unless you can afford to travel the world and collect your own international embellishments, Elliot Mann is a renowned name that can bring you that highly influenced bohemian style the world of fashion highly admires.

The latest Elliot Mann eye candy that grabs attention is the generously oversized Indie Bag. The knotting textile features layers of braiding, ribbon, antique beading and coined charms throughout the upper portion of the tote. Such a lovely array of colors and trinkets gives off an authentic hippie inspired feel. The most visible aspect is the fishnet body that is heavily fringed and made of cotton. This piece arrives in two different warmth tones of yellow or orange, both versions varying in unique materials. You can sport this large exotic by means of its double leather handles that conveniently adjust to your length preferences.

Marc by Marc Jacobs Velvet Regine Bag

I love Marc Jacobs! And I love his diffusion line, Marc by Marc Jacobs! His designs are always so fun and quirky. Season after season, I love checking out his latest creations. Nothing really surprises me anymore and very rarely do I see something I don’t at least sort of like. What can I say, his quirkiness kind of grows on you! Unfortunately, this appears to be one of those rare occasions. Yes, I definitely found myself raising an eyebrow when I gazed upon the handbag you see pictured here. Meet the Marc by Marc Jacobs Regine Velvet Drawstring Bag.

What we have here is a classic drawstring bucket, something I would normally say you can’t go wrong with. But something about this bag just isn’t doing it for me. Perhaps it is the color palette that is throwing me off. Or maybe it is the velvet. I don’t know, for some reason I just picture an old rug that has been unraveling. This bag definitely isn’t for me! However, that doesn’t mean someone else won’t find it charming. To pull this bag off, I’m thinking it would fit in best with a 1970’s retro look. Perhaps a floaty top in the same color scheme and a pair of broken in bell bottoms will bring out that Marc by Marc Jacobs charm I have come to know and love!

Tory Burch Audra

Tory Burch is currently one of my favorite designers. Anything the brand styles exudes sophistication and class. The brand also does an amazing job at pairing up black leather and gold hardware, which happens to be my favorite color combination when it comes to fashion.

At the moment, I’m absolutely loving the Tory Burch “Audra” Mini Bag. Before I even took a glimpse at it the name caught my eye. In my handbag collection, I have a Louis Vuitton Multicolor bag that was also named “Audra”, so it was interesting to see a bag by a different designer with the same name. When I took a look at it, it looked nothing like my Louis Vuitton in fact it looked like the total opposite! It was as if the handbags could be “Audra” the night and day collection.

The “Audra” by Tory Burch looks pretty small but it sure is fabulous and would be an amazing bag to carry around all year long. What I love about it too is that I can pretty much wear anything with it. It’s one of those bags that looks kind of casual but then it looks like it could be an elegant bag. I would carry this bag around while wearing a pair of shorts or an evening dress.

My favorite feature of the bag are the chain links! Chain links always catch my eye and boy do they look stunning on the “Audra”. Such a beautiful bag and would be an amazing addition to any handbag collection.

Olivia Harris by Joy Gryson Messenger

I have always loved Gryson handbags. I think it was my Gryson Skye Satchel that got me hooked on the designer. But recently, Gryson handbags seem to have fallen off the face of the planet. What the heck happened? Oddly enough, there doesn’t seem to be a lack of Olivia Harris handbags out there. This is Joy Gryson’s other handbag line, which is named after her daughter. It is known for being a little younger and edgier than the original line. How Olivia Harris compares to Gryson, I don’t know. But after seeing the Olivia Harris by Joy Gryson Oversized Collar Stud Messenger, I am definitely eager to find out!

What do I find attractive about this bag? For one, messenger satchels are HOT! This piece has all the features of a messenger satchel that most people find appealing. The semi-structured shape, the flap closure, the strap/buckle detail… everything. Plus it has something that you don’t see too often with this style. Rich, pebbled leather! It looks so yummy and it gives this piece a little bit more of a casual feeling. I think it would make a great, everyday handbag and a cornerstone to a casual wardrobe. Carry it in hand or on your shoulder, this is one versatile piece!

Chloe Carmen Dotty Bag

As I grow older, I see that I’m more into fashion that’s classy but yet sophisticated at the same time. I do love my rocker chick look, but a majority of the time I love to dress to the 9’s and look glamorous from head to toe. I guess a woman reaches a point in her life where she realizes she has to go for more of a grown up look.

I absolutely love when I can find handbags that look as if you are on your way to the office. By that I mean, purses that look very business attire or even like a briefcase. Best part is though, is that you aren’t on your way to work and more on your way to having a stylish high fashion day.

The See by Chloe “Carmen Dotty” Satchel is a perfect example of a a stylish looking work bag. What catches my eye about it, is that it looks very profession which gives it some versatility. This is definitely the type of handbag that you can easily carry all day long. Whether it’s to work, or for play it’s a bag that you can carry around everyday out of the year. With that much versatility it’s a great bag to add to any collection!

House of Harlow Handbags

I will admit that I am not Nicole Richie’s biggest fan. When it comes to her jewelry collection, however, it is an entirely different story. I love House of Harlow 1960! The designs are a blend of bohemian, flower child, and tribal influences. So cute and great for topping off just about any casual look. But what I like even more is that Nicole Richie actually wears her own designs! Not all celebrity designers do that, so I think that is very refreshing! That is why I was excited to learn that handbags have been added to the House of Harlow collection! I knew I had to check them out!

So what did I find? I can safely say I wasn’t disappointed! The handbags have that same aura about them that the jewelry does. Mostly clutches for now, I am hoping to see some more shoulder bags added to the collection. That being said, here are a couple of my favorite pieces so far!

Lulu Guinness is launching luggage

Lulu Guinness is set to launch her first collection of travel bags next week, and to celebrate the launch, she has released the above video in collaboration with British filmmaker Vicky Mather. I only wish that all of my handbags danced around so happily, not to mention that lips seem like a pretty good way to make sure your suitcase stands out at baggage claim.

I think that the Proenza Schouler PS11 will be my next bag

Proenza Schouler PS11, $1850 via ProenzaSchouler.com

Nothing makes me happier than stalking my next purchase. With most things in life, I’m an impulse-buyer, but when it comes to handbags, I like to take it slow. Let the romance develop. Whisper sweet nothing to my new bag over candlelight before I make it mine.

Ok, this is getting weird quickly. I apologize. Pretend I didn’t say that awkward stuff about the candles. ANYWAY. I like to plot my purchases, and I often do it with Megs, because she understands this whole weird bag thing better than basically anyone else on the face of the planet. She and I were talking the other day, and I think my next bag is going to be from Proenza Schouler. The Proenza Schouler PS11, to be specific.

For a while, I thought I’d be getting a PS1. I’ve liked the bag since it debuted, and it seems like a functional choice that I’d really enjoy having in my closet. The PS11, on the other hand, took some time to gain my affection. I didn’t love it immediately, but it grew on me by leaps and bounds and I’ve been in love for what seems like a year. Not to mention that I rarely carry more than my keys, billfold, sunglasses and phone in my purse, which means that this bag would be the perfect size. I’ve got you on my list, PS11, and I’m coming to get you.

Kate spade nadine snake-print crossbody: Classic Twist on a Trend

The kate spade new york nadine crossbody combines three of my most favorite elements of handbags into one: Classic shape, the edginess of skins, and the crossbody feature that makes bags oh-so convenient. This versatile piece mixes the luxury look of snake-print with the functionality that is missing from so many of the more formal bags. The top handles give it the kate spade look we’ve come to know and love yet mix it up with the longer strap and chain detail. The final result is a formal, elegant yet useful and completely wearable bag that can go form day to night and form fancy affair to soccer game. Pair this with anything from a Calvin Klein work dress

Roberto Cavalli Croc-Effect Leather Tote: The Real Deal

Nothing beats the real thing, but this comes pretty close. Of course, I would love to own a real croc shopper like this big rectangular tote, but what the hell! Roberto Cavalli’s stamped leather looks amazing, and I can save my money for an adventure in the Amazon instead. This is about as good as crocodile-effect can get

Roger Vivier “Missive” Pochette: Jessica and Roger Make a Sweet Match

she carried herself with ease and grace in a tiered Dolce & Gabbana maxi-dress and tumbling updo. Best of all, a sleek and modern Roger Vivier pochette completed her look.

An embellished bag would look silly against such a spirited star patter, so this slim, square clutch, adorned with nothing but fine craftsmanship and a simple tab closure, is the answer to a flowing look. While Jessica wisely chose the black leather version, the blue patent is great for a shot of shine. At the same price of $795, both variations are as easy on the wallet as they are on the eyes. Whether you go for colorful pop or timeless neutral, boxy clutches are a must for the season, and Vivier’s

Proenza Schouler “Book Bag”: Rational Desire

If there were one bag out there to be deemed perfect for all my needs, this would be it. Proenza Schouler’s satchel, fresh out of their Fall 2011 line, has it all. I’m not messing around anymore: I am strictly a shoulder bag girl now. I love the function, and I require organization. This has all that in spades, as well as a ridiculous amount of style.

It’s got the cool and whimscal ease of a half-hazard strap with a buckle down the middle and the convenience of a pouch under the simple flap – such a luxury, the accessible front pocket. With tailored leather and neutral hardware, varying textures and a splash of fresh color – the whole thing makes me swoon, but in a totally sensible way. It’s bags like these I actually buy, the ones packed with practicality that fits into my real life and stirs up excitement that entices my senses. So, what more could you want in a bag? Well, one that actually exists. Barneys will have a variation of this bag that’s smaller and sans the front pocket under the flap. What!?!? I need to talk to their buyer. The not-as-good version available at Barneys in September for $1,595.

Pair with: I plan to wear this bag with just about everything (as soon as I can get my hands on it!), but a pair of platform hiking boots by Alaïa would radiate surprising chic. Spotty printed calf-hair and a lug sole put a whole new spin on an already perfect satchel. On Net-a-Porter

Valextra “Namaste” Big Hobo: Divine Intervention

guess which bag I’ve been using non-stop this week? The beauty of its clean lines is absolute perfection and its functionality cannot be matched. Now in crocodile? Large-scale crocodile, all one luxuriant panel, topped with a lustrous sheen? Seriously, I might hurt myself from excitement.

Imagine how many skins Valextra needs to go through to find the perfect piece (with the right pattern and graduation, no less) to fit this large-sized hobo. This is the highest quality of crocodile you will find

Marni Perforated Pocket Messenger: Call it a Comeback

Marni is back, ladies and gents. After a long dry spell of bags that I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy, Marni has made a triumphant return with an assortment of drool-licious satchels. Like this perforated messenger: smart, pulled-together, and fabulously slim. Expandable sides and an easy-access front pocket make this discreet yet heady little bag actually usable. Compactly tailored lines and not much more than a zipper and buckle in the way of hardware let you know this bag is all about clean. But clean doesn’t mean dull

Prada Square Totes: It’s Hip to Be Square

Basic geometry defines a square as a four-sided regular polygon with all sides equal and internal angles at 90º. Bag Snobs define a square as a perfectly chic, smart, and snappy shape for a tote. And it looks like Prada agrees! Showing off a new collection jam-packed with alluring squares, they just might be the biggest proponent of the square bag this fall, taking it from trend to possible revolution.

A few months ago, I came to the shocking realization that a python Prada was missing from my exotic bag wardrobe. This new berry edition, lined in lambskin, is just the antidote to all bags light, pure, and dull. Just in time for fall, this python sparkles like a garnet (and has a jewel-worthy price tag)

Anya Hindmarch “Roslyn” Clutch: Shirred Genius

to be on-trend? Anya Hindmarch’s shirred leather has all the trimmings of a furry bag, but it’s somehow so much chicer. Besides, you’re getting an unusual bag that won’t seem stale once all the fur fuss dissipates.

I’ve never been too fond of fringed bags, but this goes above and beyond. When leather has been artfully razored for an all-over effect, bring it on! The metallic finish shows off the depth and mysterious texture.

Bottega Veneta Large Hobo Bag: You’ve Really Got a Hold On Me

But bags like this make it so hard! Please just look at this hobo and tell me how it is not just earth-shatteringly amazing?

One might think they would have run out of ideas by now, but their ability to reinvent that weave and conceive new details for those seams is nothing short of genius. Yet again, they have presented us with a simple yet obsession-inspiring hobo with every bit of functionality you need (albeit on the heavy side, but I prefer more Bottega to less, anyway). The shape is a loose trapezoid, which holds your interest and your stuff. In rust, you get the vibrancy you want but the subdued shade you need come fall. The seams have been meticulously razored and turned loose for a neat yet wild look, like sharp little petals opening up all around the bag.

Cleobella Wenona Clutch

Feathers are everywhere right now. They have been popping up on jewelry, hair accessories, clothing… practically anything you can imagine. I can certainly understand why though. After all, I have been a bit obsessed with feather earrings lately! But of all the feathers I have seen floating around out there, I don’t think too many of them were on handbags. So of course I was intrigued when I came across the !

Even more intriguing is that this clutch doesn’t look much like other Cleobella handbags I have seen. Most are heavily adorned with studs, beading, or fringe. This piece, on the other hand, is quite simple. The soft, hand dyed leather is folded ever so neatly and each fold is secured at the sides with a simple stud. I love how the top of the clutch folds over and the feather adornment (which is actually a zipper pull) hangs down in front. The detail of the feather itself is exquisite! Just look how graceful the lines of the shaft and barbs (the horizontal lines) are! I also love the color combination. I think the mustard yellow feather looks great on its light turquoise background. Not bad for a boho-chic look!

Christian Louboutin Sweet Charity

I love glitter nail polish! It is such a fun way to spice up your manicure! But there is also something I hate about glitter nail polish. It is super hard to get off! Scrub it with nail polish remover all you want, it just doesn’t want to budge. If only I could get that glitter look without the headache of switching to something new the next day. Wait… maybe I can. What about a glittery handbag? Certainly not for everyday use, but super cute for a night out! That’s why I am really liking the Glitter and Suede Mini Bag!

What I like most about this bag is the fact that it is a mini. The small size balances the multicolored glitter, making this little ball of stardust festive but not overwhelming. I’m also loving the curious choice of accents for this piece. Purple suede forms a bow like embellishment, which in turn is adorned with gold tone chain mesh and dome-shaped studs. You can’t get any more unique than that! Use the dainty chain strap to wear this bag cross body. Or for an even cuter look, tuck the chain strap inside and carry it in hand like a clutch. Either way, you are sure to brighten up the room!

Kate Spade Westwind Drive Felice Tote

I don’t go to the beach very often, as it’s way too hot in Miami to the point you can barely breathe, but when I do I try to go as stylish as possible. I’m definitely one of those women that have designer beach goods like towels, dresses, umbrellas, sandals, bags etc. When I stumble on unique looking beach accessories I tend to want them including the Kate Spade New York “Westwind Drive Felice” Tote.

Usually, I’m not a fan of gold or silver fashion accessories I always thought they were too gaudy looking but in the past year or so I’ve fallen in love! I’ve come to the realization that sometimes flashy is good and fun! The “Westwine Drive Felice” Tote is unlike any beach tote I’ve ever seen before. I don’t recall ever seen a shiny gold beach tote that would shine amazingly in the sun!

Ideally the tote isn’t practical for the beach but it sure is gorgeous! For me, I like to carry my everything in my beach bag to prevent carrying lots of bags. For this tote, I’d made a sacrifice though and bring multiple bags.

What I love about the “Westwind Drive Felice” Tote is that it has a drawstring closure. Most beach are made with no closures so it’s nice to see this adorable one have one! Keeps your personal items from being seen by the whole beach! Flashy and fun, I love this bag!

You can purchase the Kate Spade New York “Westwind Drive Felice” Tote at Bloomingdales for $295.

Rebecca Minkoff MAM Bombe

When Rebecca Minkoff introduced her Bombe collection, the pieces became an instant hit! My favorite piece from this collection, of course, is the Morning After Mini Bombe. This bag is so gorgeous, you might even say it is a Bombe-shell! Plus I love the look of two-tone color combinations on handbags! But of all the versions I have seen of this bag, I think the one you see pictured here is by far the most beautiful. Introducing the Rebecca Minkoff Morning After Mini Bombe in Navy/Black!

The color of this bag is simply amazing! It looks like a little jewel! Rebecca Minkoff calls the color Navy, but it almost looks like a darker shade of cobalt blue to me. The richness of the blue is countered beautifully with black basket weave trim, which is not only bold but intricate as well. The elegant lines that are characteristic of the Bombe collection have really been brought to life! Rebecca Minkoff certainly knows how to do retro-inspired right! This classic satchel will look great paired with tailored pieces for an unbelievably sophisticated look for work or play. Feeling a bit more trendy? Pair it with other retro-inspired pieces for a great Indie look!

Discover the Rebecca Minkoff Morning After Mini Bombe at RebeccaMinkoff, where it is currently available in Navy/Black!

Step into a Tory Burch boutique and you will literally be assaulted by beautiful patterns, details and interesting elements that somehow just WORK. Tory’s sense of easy chic style has caught the fashion world by storm and become a go to label for today’s active woman who wants to be put together yet retain personality in the way she dresses. Tory makes this happen with classic updated silhouettes combined with luxurious fabrics, prints and colors that translate from clothing to accessories.

The other brilliant aspect of Tory’s accessories is price point. Beautiful, well-made, highly detailed handbags for a truly low price when you compare to the brands available today. For a woman who likes to change her bags depending on mood and outfit, you’ll love Tory’s options that are easy on your wallet and you will not lose quality or style!

The bag I’m loving today is the McClane. A beautiful light shade called Honey. it’s a gorgeous neutral for today’s styles. A stunning lady-like flap bag (2 trends in one) with a gold chain accented shoulder strap. There’s plenty of comfortable leather on the handle so that the chain does not dig into your shoulder. Supple leather flap closes with a turnlock closure. Tonal top-stitched leather provides a subtle detail with a little “pop” of Tory’s signature logo in gold-tone.

The bag is quite functional too. An exterior slip pocket makes for easy access to your keys and phone. Interior zip, wall and cell phone pockets for organization and there’s even a mirror for you. A detail you see with most vintage bags. One that has been passed on by many of today’s designers.

By today’s standards, it’s a small bag measuring 10″ x 8″ x 3″. However once you’ve carried a bag this size, it holds everything you need and leave plenty of room for things you tend to pile into your bag that you do not! I think you’ll agree it’s a beautiful bag for a modest $395 at Nordstrom.

Louis Vuitton Vernis Alma BB

Jennifer Love Hewitt looked so put together at the Foundation Polo Challenge, an event to benefit the American Friends of the Foundation of Prince William and Prince Harry. I love her navy blue dress from Monique L’Huillier and blue-gray peep-toe pumps from Christian Louboutin. But what is this lovely nude handbag I see accenting her look? It looks like a miniature version of the Louis Vuitton Vernis Alma. I haven’t seen a pint-sized Alma since Louis Vuitton’s little satin pieces from about a decade ago. So I guess it was about time for Louis Vuitton to once again experiment with favorite style-inspired minis. If you ask me, the Vernis Alma was an excellent choice!

This little beauty is called the . It is both whimsical and sophisticated, perfect for special occasions. I am not sure what color Jennifer’s bag is, but I believe it may be the Rose Florentin. It was one of the original colors made available for this style when it was released at the beginning of the year. Whatever it is, it looks gorgeous paired with Jennifer’s outfit! Plus she’s carrying this baby in the way it was meant to be carried — as an evening bag. Cute!

CFDA and eBay join forces, launch line of totes to combat counterfeiting

If there’s one thing on which we can all agree around here, it’s that fake bags are the opposite of awesome. Both eBay and the Council of Fashion Designers of America are on board that ship as well, and they’ve gotten together to start the “You Can’t Fake Fashion” tote bag campaign, which launches at 11 a.m. today on the eBay Fashion Vault.

To mark the launch of the $35 anti-fake tote bags, whose proceeds benefit the CFDA Foundation, eBay and the CFDA asked 50 American brands and designers to customize one-of-a-kind totes that will retail for $150 each. From a minimal, modernist version by The Row to appliqued black lace from Jason Wu to illustrations by Rodarte, the designers came through. Some of the designs are better than others, of course, but we’ve got pictures of all of them after the jump. Which one is your favorite? If you’d like to purchase one of the regular or customized totes to support eBay’s and the CFDA’s fight against fakes, visit the eBay Fashion Vault at 11 a.m. today.
